My Dear Mr Kev35,
Many thanks for your input it is duly Noted,
Regards
Childish Merkle
Western Toyland,
I will refrain from getting angry this time, and hold my tongue, but needless to say I am quite hurt by Grim Reapers/ Kev 35 comments and So called “Very Good” friends of mines Constant P@@@ taking,
I have said as before there is a land issue.
The man who is starting all this has enough on his plate,I remember the day a certain gentleman who is starting the westonzoyland project let you (FW190) climb inside his german booker Jungmann at kemble a few years ago for a Taxi around the drome for free, you know of him and the work he does, so why do you scorn and take the p@@@ out of the man who works hard for aviation/preservation in general and who was so kind to you, Also I hasten to add he has no internet so he is not here to defend himself. what a bunch of rotters you really are, I could say worse, there is a mention of a museum starting up on “Western Toyland” in the future, and you all seem to think in one month there will be a mini Duxford, you are a Absolute Joke all of you who act in this way, I would like to see you get off your arses, pay out lots of money, spend weekend after weekend night after night trying to sort things out in the background,
I will NOT be at Duxford this year,or any other year, from now on ,
I understand if you do not agree what we are doing, or if you are even interested, but I do mind when you make remark Laughing behind our backs when we are at least trying, on little funds , and lots of political issues,
It may not happen this year, or the next, but it is on the cards, and if anyone knew my good friend he never lets anyone down, if he says he will do something he very normally does, I cannot think of Many men that have restored to fly 3 aircraft from absolute wrecks , which he has, and a few years ago took on the worlds only Gay Class Motor Torpedo Boat , and has done a wonderful Job, restoring her from a complete wreck, having to sell his house in the process to pay for the work /parts /equiptment to do the job, !!! and has restored it in a matter of a few years pretty much Day and Night all by himself , all 75ft of it , and his friends help when they can, this does not include he is trying to start a succesful bussiness.
When you can do better than him, I will listen to your comments , Until then, your constant “Ribbing” of any project this gentleman and friends undertake I will totally disregard, I hope you can all have your hats and eat them in the future,
Oh and By the way dont direct your Western toyland comments to Mr French XH688 as he has now decided to leave the project because of other commitments, I also believe , myself, Himself or anyone else Do not have to Justify ourselves to any of you,
The Whole reason WZ was talked about in the first place was to find help in clearing the land , volounteers etc to get things going, its funny ,we never got much of that apart from a very few good people, the rest of you just sat back and take the P@@@ ,I should have not expected any better from such a bunch of hypocrites, who have nothing better than to scorn and laugh at other peoples efforts,
so as for the forum Meet at Duxford, well I wont be there, because the forum is one of the most unfriendliest places i have ever had the miss-fortune to visit,
all be it I am not having a go at all of you ,only those that for the past 3 months have done nothing but take the P@@@ and scorn, make cruel remarks, sometimes personal, and try to scupper anything we try, do you not realise that Govorning Bodies ALSO read this forum, and as such your hurtful comments can be read by anyone, so what chance would we have when you try and sink us before we start, as I said before “MUD sticks”
I have said my Piece ,
Yours
Mr Chris Collins
I think I got a simaller Camera, its not as good as a SLR ,but it is a FUJI FinePix S6500 fd digi cam,
I used it at Kemble air day this year, and i dont think i could have got better for the money about £150, the Movie part on it really suprised me with the sound qaulity,
the only thing that i did find hard was its ZOOM , its quite good, but not brilliant, But i managed to get some good shots with it, when there was a flypast, ,when i got home i had to zoom in on the pic, to as much as i could to get the detail, but trying to photograph a fast jet at full chat was very hard and also at any sort of distance,
I was very pleased with what i had got anyway even if it wasnt a SLR
I agree David,
it currently wieghs at 1.8 tonnes, But I imagine it would be better if all the unnessesary weight was removed ,these parts would not be junked ,but used as swaps etc for other owners who needed the said Items, i think by removing the nose leg, the 5 oxy bottles and all the heavy inductors, regulators etc, would help though, as much as transporting the canberra would still be not for the faint hearted, I wonder how it must be to move one with all that gear still on it, i imagine quite a nightmare,
Rest assured I will Not be cutting the very front nose off, because thinking of it logically ,there really is not a weight issue with the nose, and it would do more harm than good, its a personal thing too, i do prefer cockpits to have the complete nose when i see them, ie hunters, jaguars etc, but i can see why people have cut them down to a minimum,
I will allways have WH887 best interests at heart, and will think very hard before i make any decisions on even cutting the rear, it needs to be done properly, I have taken on WH887 to preserve her ,not destroy her, If in the future for any personal reason i cannot manage her ,then I would sell her to a “good” home ,rather than let anything un-toward happen to her, my main worry is restoring her and not being able to show her, due to weight and size, But I will overcome this, when that time comes,
Just a Update,
Hi all, just a Update regarding the Weight issue etc,
I have decided to remove the “Very” heavy Nose leg, and all Parts that will not be seen inside IE heavy Oxy Bottles etc, Regulators , anything that adds weight to the cockpit, I imagine the Nose wouldbe Very much considerably lighter, once this operation is finished ,
the only place where people will see inside is the cockpit and Nav Position,
I am even contemplating cutting the cockpit from the bomb bay area to the Rear cockpit Bulkhead, making the cockpit about 2 foot shorter on the rear,
I have even contemplated removing the forward Nose as this served no purpose in the TT.18,bu i will have to see just how damaged the Nose is as it has had quite a whack on the front of the nose,
I would Rather NOT do this as it will ruin the shape of the canberra, But if I need something easily transportable then anything to cut the weight and size is a bonus, But I wont go as far as ruining the cockpit section ,
Perhaps I should have picked a smaller cockpit, But beggers cant be choosers, and she is a good old bird, with lots of photos of her past life and even a Corgi Aviation Archive Model made of her .
But if I ended up with a cockpit that i could not transport “Regularly” to various shows , then there is little point in having her, But I am determined to
make this work, if I can. its funny really, you never realise all the Implications
until you actually OWN a cockpit,
Be sure though that I have been Very active in Locating Parts for her, and am now getting quite a store of Bits ,:)
merlins
I know a historian who a few wees ago, “Santa” visited, and dumped a merlin on his drive, cor wish I had a tooth fairy like that !!, :diablo:
Uk, wrecks (waste of time)
I have to agree,
There are plenty here in the bristol Channel in the UK, there was a Blenhiem that popped up minus the Tail unit in the 1970s, Ive even seen the photos of a man stood on the wing, and photos of the cockpit all complete, ,there is also the Really Rare Bird of the Do217 that crashed in woodspring Bay which was seen complete on a sandbar upside down days later after the crash, and as recent as 10 years ago by a local fisherman, then theres the Do17Z that was on the foreshore somewhere on the south east coast in “the Battle of Britain, Then a now” , I would think by now all these aircraft would have been destroyed by the sea , and corrosion,
Maybe the only parts that may be of use to a local museum are the odd Prop Blade, or engine that get brought to shore by fisherman snagged in there nets from time to time ,
I am sure there are not many left, that would not fall apart as soon as they have been recovered,
the airframes are so old now that i dont see much chance of preserving them once they are out of water, Look at the P38 found off the welsh coast ???,
I wonder “How Long” that will be able to last out of water ,? when the team decide to recover it 🙁
Canberra TT.18 WH887 Cockpit from Royal Navy FRU and FRADU ,
oh and a rocker arm from a recently dug RN Corsair ,
Here, in the UK, you can drive along a major Motorway in the West of England and just about see the crash site where, just postwar, a Tempest was lost with its Flt Sgt pilot who is still missing. Recovery would be quite simple. Its not in a jungle like the subject of this thread, and where the existence of a still missing WW2 aircrew is understandable, but instead is not many miles from the UK’s MOD HQ where “missing” casualties are dealt with. I’m not trying to be controversial here, but just highlighting an ironic contrast of the two cases and the policies of respective governmental organisations.
Yes I know Tangmere,
I think this site being one of the most deplorable travestys in the UK, I live only a few miles from the site, and i am sure with correct procedure and respect shown, with a coroner and maybe even the services on a dig to recover this Poor Sgt ,it could be done, the land is only wasteland anyway,
it infuriates me, I may contact the MOD , and see if things have changed regarding this sort of issue,
Of course I hope everyone would agree with me , this would be nothing to do with aviation archaeology , more the case of recovering a Missing Pilot, something that should have been done many years ago,
I notice the MOD are looking to find the last BOB pilot , I wonder if they may (Re-Consider) this poor devil,
Its hard to believe in this day and age that one of our lost servicemen who died for his country can be left in a field, by the Govt he served for,
I think maybe a petition or something should or could be done to promote his recovery, so at least he finally can rest in piece ,
I would be out there with the jet wash but water is falling from the sky at a high rate.
I had actually done most of that page in advance, only the details of the dig were written up last night.
The damage to the cannon was probably caused first by it hitting a stone wall and U bending the barrel, the site used to have a wall across it, and then the engine caught up with it and smashed the breach. All in less than 1/10th of a second.
would love to see a photo of the bits when there all cleaned up 😀
I’m sorry i do not understand. Start what exactly ?
My post was merely to see if anybody had any hard facts on the info i heard (and not an exercise in getting my own post ‘score’ up another notch). It was merely one sentence and yet i’m accused of starting something ? Fair enough, if you guys are that touchy, i shall refrain from bringing such matters to this forum in future……. 😡
Hey XM692
Calm down Mate, Honestly I never intended to embarress or be-little, or offend you in ANY way , I am glad you did bring this rumour to the forums attension, and now weve got to the bottom of it, Honest mate No harm meant, there was no miss-understanding to start with,
If i was nearby I would shake yer hand and have a beer, see you at cockpit fest next year, 😉
and yet again by your insight into a rumour that you had heard , all you wanted was some clarifacation , and Now thanks to the world wide web, and the forum, the mystery has been solved for all to see, she is safe and well,
🙂
Lets not start all this
Shes saved and safe end of 🙂
oo and 500th post 🙂
here here, XH688,
Sorry if I seemed to come across all “Know all” it was not intended,
I was just letting you know she had not been scrapped, and safe to say she is still complete and loved,I wasnt having a Go at Anyone,
especailly you XM692 , Honest, it was quite funny though , i phoned the garage looking to find out where the scrap went, and he sounded like he got in a right panic, but he did see the funny side , and then told me the story about the famous family antique , and that its well cared for,
Please XM692 dont take offence , It was never intended, as we all know written text has no emotion so it is easy to get cross wired, 😀
I am just happy she is safe , 🙂
(Dont take this the wrong way forum) :-:diablo:
funny thing is though if it were a Spitfire that had been rumoured of being scrapped you would have all had Kittens , i am startin to think I am the only one in the Uk who has a soft spot for the T-7 LOL,:diablo:
Even friends of mine have said why do you like the boring old T-7 Trainer so much:eek::D
Anybody know anything about WL345 being offered for sale recently, apparently with no interest and thus resulting in it’s scrapping in the last week or so ?
.
Hello All,
Just phoned the Garage, and he cant believe what i told him about the forum, !!,
WL345 is safe and well, She was NEVER offered for sale, and has Not been scrapped,
she is a Family antique that has been handed down, the man who started the garage actually flew her in service , this is why she was bought when sold for scrap in 1962 and mounted outside his Garage.
So hence to say with a relief (PHEW) she is well cared for and will never be sold and is a real piece of family history for the owner,
I hope this clears this little lot up , ;):D
Nice Pics Alan 😀
the ground looks quite rocky in the area, it must have hit with some force to bend a 20mm like that !!, is the other piece the remains of the back of the goblin engine??,or saying that is it the crumpled Jet pipe ??
please post some pics when you clean it up,
best regards
Chris C
