Anybody know anything about WL345 being offered for sale recently, apparently with no interest and thus resulting in it’s scrapping in the last week or so ?
.
What is this True “THEY SCRAPPED HER (GASP OF FRIGHT ):(:(, the Meat Box T-7 is my Favourite aircraft, I cant believe they have scrapped it, “DID they Advertise it to sell???,
what happened to the remains, ?? is she in sections ??, or is anything left of any use, ie parts, or dare i say the word “Cockpit,
Can anyone put me in contact with the owner >??
waited years for the chance of a meteor, (no i dont have 5K ) or at least a cockpit of one, and then they go and scrap it under my nose,
Gutted is the word me thinks,!!
especailly as i am on the DSA waiting list for the “WRECK” at sennybridge,
Surely she was never scrapped ???, More info please anyone PM me with a contact i will see what i can save ,
This Year at Kemble they fired up the sea hawk with what i think was a cartridge start, Was quite funny really, as the mrs had her back to it ,and when it went off , she jumped out of her skin :D,
was impressive that big blast jet of Black smoke coming out of her on start up (the sea hawk i mean :D) , not the Mrs ,LOL
Bunkers an stuff
We have one where I live , it would be the oldest Battery in the bristol Channel if the council had not buried it in the 1960s,
Portishead “Battery Point” ,has the remains of a “Armstrong Gun” emplacement ,including underground magazines /stores etc, but sadly all filled in by he council, and they wont uncover it,
there has been a actual fort there since elizabethan times, and in the civil war it fired on royalist ships,
the last use was in the 2nd World War, when it was fitted with ex WW1, 6″ Naval Guns , My grandad remembers the days just after the war when all the kids went up there and the army put on a show, using up most of the amunition, I did suggest to the concil to uncover some of the remains, and i had full backing from the chief county archaeologist, But as Usual the “TREE Huggers ” won the fight , and as with the past 50 years all you can see is the very tops of the concrete gun pads, and grass, grass and more Grass.
As for aircraft wasnt a complete FW190 found in east germany in the remains of a Hanger that the ruskis had Blown Up/Demolished before they pulled out in the 1990s??, I wonder HOW complete it was “Before ” they blew up the Hanger/Bunker, also heard rumours of one in east germany next to a airifeld full of german aircraft, but it was left alone because of “booby ” traps ,
CAN ANYONE COROBERATE THIS STORY ???
Well, if they care not for the living, nor for the dead, then maybe they should allow people who still do care, to seek out those still missing from WWII.
Good Point Mondariz,
But they have been approached many times regarding this issue, yet allways claiming the 1986 Act, to be adhered to.
Its not just ww2 either, I know of a crash , (and i have never been there) ,that a young Sqt died in 1952 next to the motorway, he is still there, never recovered ,his name not on any war grave or memorial, Nothing, Just in a field Next to the motorway,Its a travesty,I would have loved to tell the family, But i will not as that needs specailist trained people to take that approach, I would not know how to approach them with such shocking news,
Hence to say i think he will remain there forever, it is a very sad way to treat our lost service personel, especailly when with proper plans, and the proper authorities involved i think he could be recovered and given a decent berial.
But i think yet again with the govt it is down to COST , it is a lot easier to forget about them,
the funny thing is the “Protection of Military Remains Act 1986” was actually brought in to protect those lost at Sea, with all the wartime ships being plundered by divers at the time, thus making them a wargrave.
I can understand that you cant find those at sea, But those on the land that “CAN” be recovered decently and respectfully, should be.
“MISSING” is a Horrid Word, as until they are found , to the family it is a total mystery, until that day they are lucky enough to find there loved ones and have some closure on the subject:(
Well, my son is 18 today and very shortly is off to Afghanistan….but not before he buys his kit because what he is issued with is C**P…! And when he gets there, to an un-winnable and under resourced war he gets to meet Terry Taliban for less than a traffic warden. A grateful nation, eh? Bit off topic….but a regular rant of mine.
Well Tangmere I wish your son the very best and hope he returns home safely,
apat from my Bruv in laws Moans about the Govt, etc, He did enjoy it finally doing the job he was trained to do, and he has some great mates in his Troop,
I think alot of the british people have utmost respect for what our troops do, only they disagree with why they are there in the first place,
as I said I hope he returns home safely to his family after his tour.:)
Sorry this was Of TOPIC, ,I wil resort to normal now, :p
I’m not sure our present government gives a toss about the living ones!
Aint that the truth , My Brother in law just come back from afganistan,
he said the equiptment is crap, and they are really overstretched,
He also added, he has never seen the men feel so dejected, because of how they are treated back home, Lke he said, He feels this is “OUR VIETNAM”
and he is a Sqt who has served over 20 years, and loves the army, 😮
Dear All
I just could not stay away , but have had a couple of days to calm down and think about all that has been said, this Thread is one of the best i have ever seen, both sides of the arguement seen with no punches thrown. I have learned alot from you all on this thread, I still believe in fervently what i am trying to achieve, but I must admit,I do let my heart rule my head sometimes when i should calm down, I find this subject very emotional and allways have done, and sadly i flew off the handle, For this I apologise to the forum members who had to put up with it,
One of my biggest problems is I find it very hard to explain myself in words, and dig myself into a hole no matter my good intensions,
I have read this thread and have to agree with most of your posts, and I realise we are all individual with a right to our own personal opinions,
as for the dig i intend to do, I will be donating many parts to the North Somerset Museum and Somerset County Museum, the reason for this going to a county museum is because it is LOCAL history, and no matter what happens to other parts over the years becuase of groups splitting up, changing hands, etc , at least a fair amount of it will allways be in the “County Museums” for future generations to come,
I will try to dispose of as much as i can to worth while causes, but would also want some myself,to clean up and display,
however there may after i have tried all avenues, a small amount that would be surplus, but i will try my best as allways to find a good home for it.
I know it is only a meteor but as with any aircraft the eyewitnesses are getting scarce, and if you think about it, Aviation archaeology started with WW2 digs in the 1960s, only 20-30 years after the war, these early jets are for the most lost over 50 years ago, and will be just as interesting and rare one day, this is why i want to work closely with the county museums.
I can imagine a spitfire in 1965 was pretty worthless, as is a meteor now, but Personally i find them very valuable heritage, when our aircraft where the envy of the world, and the advancements in aviation in that period in time were frankly quite amazing. hence my personal interest,
And I have to Agree with Kev35 on one point, and it upsets me very much that our Govt Lacks commitment to its war dead,They actively discourage searching or researching “Missing” crews, I only wish these poor souls could be recovered for there family’s , and i cannot understand why the govt refuse to do so.
on a personal note my own family had a “Missing” family member, who died on a Jap POW camp, in sumatra, my grandmother never got over it, because for her there was NO closure. so i have seen first hand how devastating this can be,
I hope this Post makes more sense to you all than my usual garbled rubbish, I am sorry I am a bit of a scatter brain, and i speak straight from the heart, which gets me in trouble, even though my intensions are good, as i said i find it very hard to explain myself properly.:o
Please excuse any grammer or spelling mistakes,(english was not my best subject)
on that Note i think i have said enough, apart from i hope to carry on in a Honourable, but not mercenary fashion.
Jungmann
I helped my friend restore a Bucker Jungmann,
(now sold to a german museum in flying order)
and he told me that when the spanish airfroce released the casa Jungmanns
after a while they recalled some back , and wanted to hold onto the ones they had, as there was nothing of its type that was as aerobatic as the old Jungmann as a trainer, for a introduction to flight for flight training,
Is there any truth in this ??
and does the Spanish airforce still use them, i remember it was not too long ago that the Spanish still used the Dornier 24 flying boat,
and I wonder if India still uses the canberra ?
Seeing as it was in a load of vulc bits… 🙂
As for what else is buried/hidden I’ll do some asking around next week, probably get told to ****** off but nothing ventured…
Aint that the truth, especailly with Farmers when searching for crash sites,
they seem to be VERY , suspicious people
For what little my opinion is worth, three of us are already laying plans to attend next year with two sea hawk cockpits – one restored, one not (yet) – and the reason for the effort is to meet up with like-minded people and hopefully put faces to the e-mail and forum names of people we’ve come to know over the years. I also understand that there might be some beer there :diablo:
Hi Roy
I have written to you many times over the years, I too will be there come hell or High water next year with WH887, it will be nice to put faces to emails as you say
and if there is Beer, well BONUS
Thanks for the comments.
No harm done, Merkle!
Cheers
TJ
Many Thanks TEEJ,
After seeing your photos , I wish one day to aspire to making as good photos as you, they are trully brilliant in detail, I would hate to think how much your camera costs LOL,
I too love the Tornado in the smoke
I only wish I had a Better pic of the Venom, as it was the first time i have ever seen one fly, and I have a great interest in venoms and Vampires , anything from that era, But i could not zoom in close enough for a decent shot,
What sort of camera could i get on a Low Budget to get good results, any advice would be greatly recieved, or are we talking £800 Minimum for one that can do the job 😉
Ok, AIrforce, Govt Service , would be more apt,
I suppose it was a interest in the Jet aircraft, do any countries in africa still
use Migs 21 or earlier, or even older types, I know the C47 is still used,
I bet theres some real gems out there in some of these small countries back and beyond,
I recall some time ago Albania was trying to sell off there old Mig fleet,
Firebrand that never was EK495
EK695 was not built ? the batch of Firebrands ended at EK694.
Yep Correct, I have just checked the EE file with air britain where the number was given charge for the admiralty for a batch of Firebrands,
then checked the Fleet air arm 1946-2000, and it reads EK694 as the last number, for that batch, the next Number is EK712 , so i imagine it was never built, Unless for any reason it was never taken onto RAF/FAA Charge, and they were used for tests/training within the company, or as instructional piece of equiptment , never actually going into service,
but it is very much more likely it was Cancelled , all i do find strange is from looking at air -britain, when there was a cancellation ,normally it is the whole part of that Batch/Contract
my Condolences
I am so sorry to hear of the Loss of your father
Chaz Bowyer,a great man who worked tirelessly for aviation,
I personnally lost my dad in 2003, it was devastating, I understand as do many others who have lost such close loved one,
But remember your dad will allways be with you in your heart, and your happy memories, Chaz also will be Fondly remembered for many many years also for the wonderful work he completed,
My Condolences to you and your Family,
Kindest regards
Chris C
