Great another low cost airline for JER! I’m so pleased, what the tourism industry needs in the island (well the whole of the C.I. needs). I heard this news this morning and hoped Jersey may be one of the destinations so I am quite pleased it is.
When is the airline set to fly?

Those BA ATRs were obviously from GCI…I was up there in the morning so I probably saw wanna those aircraft listed take off at this end.
The Belavia 154 was a surprise for me also when I was at LGW two summers ago. It made a welcome change from the charters around in the afternoon…the noise, the smoke!

The 777s are leaving the fleet for more 767s I believe.

Yeah that does surprise me that they will be dropping the LCY route. I suppose extra traffic with EZY on the Gatwick route along with Flybe. could of been the reason behind it?

    Interflug,
I to love the hammer and sickle. I think it is probably one of the most honoured and respected symbols of commercial aviation- A famous characteristic of the once world’s largest airline. I think Aeroflot should absorb its history, rather than dispose of it as if it had never existed, because what it represented was an airline which to every sense of the word was “uniquely Russian” and presented an experience characterised only by CIS airlines. I would of loved Aeroflot to continue with it, but sadly this idea did not flourish as they tried to western orientated their image and become your average airline with a standard image and western fleet.

I enjoyed seeing the hammer and sickle because like you I love the former and modern day CIS airlines and aircraft. I can honestly say that in my eyes the hammer and sickle may have disappeared off the aircraft but it will always be a reminder of an excellent era in civilian aviation.

Yeah the sickle symbol is the reason behind the change. To re-brand itself as a western orientated airline it had to get rid of an image, which did not enforce Russia’s new political and social image.

Personally I think it is a symbol of a well-respected airline who before the break up of the USSR, was the worlds biggest airline. It is sad to see it go, however, if Aeroflot wants a new image then ridding itself of any former symbols is the way to go about. Thus, the media (who created a bad perception of Aeroflot) can no longer criticise it but rather praise it as a western standard airline.

The airline has a long way to go to reach their competitors standards but a new western fleet and a new image, which is comparable to any other world airline, is the way to go about it. My only hope is that the new style is made uniform throughout the network as the image Aeroflot wants to shed is present mainly on their domestic and CIS services rather than the western services. However, I would hope they could keep their “Uniquely Russian” status.

This is a fairly new aircraft and corporate image for Midwest is it not? Very nice anyway…

    Mongu,
I will try and explain what I mean to the best of my ability, I am not exactly aware of the major components of an ATI, but here it goes.

Swiss was granted ATI with AA in November of last year I gather. Now this means that AA and Swiss can codeshare on the North American routes and have unrestricted expansion of operations on North Atlantic routes under the Open Sky Agreement Switzerland has. Also, it enables the two airlines to co-ordinate their fares and launch joint marketing initiatives.

Now why is BA not happy with Swiss joining Oneworld? Well because we have to remember that BA couldn’t get ATI with AA. This means that Swiss has an advantage over BA: With AA it can develop its traffic across the Atlantic and take transfer passengers of BA at LHR to ZRH, which is a much less troublesome airport for connecting. Also, Swiss has no obstacles sitting in its track like BA who would find heavy penalties if it grew in partnership with AA. In the contrary, Swiss has room to grow. So, in my opinion BA has much more to lose if Swiss were to join Oneworld.

A very similar tail design to BA and Delta don’t you think?

I cried during Titanic when the mother was trying to get her children to sleep knowing they were going to die. That was just terrible. I also cried during The Wedding Singer, Saving Private Ryan and Patch Adams.

I have cried of laughter during some extremely funny movies otherwise it is because of the bad acting…. *Cough* Britney Spears Crossroads *cough*

Disney movies always get me going as well!

Yeah I agree Swiss should join Oneworld. Bigger link up in Central Europe and they could ease conjestion at Heathrow by feeding through some of their operations down to Zurich.

I think the big thing is that American would like BA to push another European airline into Oneworld so that they can develop and integrate their relationship with Swiss through antitrust immunity.

It’s from the Daily Record  So until I see it posted on proper news sites (not tabloid gossip rags) I will refuse to believe a thing. Anyway, the article seems very ambiguously worded, example,

‘Workers at Heathrow Airport will bear the brunt of any job cuts,’

Of which there are only 600 so why would they bear the brunt of the job cuts? What about Amsterdam their major hub? Just all seems rather ominous to me.

KLM is currently expanding its fleet, new runways at Amsterdam, high load factors…how the hell this could be a sign of an airline on its last legs would beat me. They are not going anywhere yet though what the future holds for the airline is beyond me (Consolidation in Europe).

Caen-Dinard….I have done that in a car and it takes at least a 2h to do the 115 mile journey if not longer in traffic! Some of those alternatives are a joke and a real inconvenience to people looking to get to these destinations.
