Wow, good thing the Britsh Empire never did anything wrong….
Exactly, no matter how sugar coated some want to make things, they cannot change history, what really boiled my pee is when they banned swastikas from Airfix kits.
Don’t mind the re-enactment stuff, providing the uniforms look authentic, seen a few at classic car shows that are shared with the military vehicle clubs, although I have noticed that at most venues the SS are not welcome.
My Dads lot (36sqn) dropped one on U616, combined effort though by all accounts.
Bally Kelly had puff puffs running through it, not saying this is BK though.
The log seems to have been detached – here it is again:
Jim
NB: SHACKLETON IDENTITIES NOT CONFIRMED.
Now, I’m not saying it isn’t but…. My Dad was flew in XF730 on the 23rd June & again on the 2nd Of July with 42sqn at St Mawgan, XF730 may have been there for the display but not sure about having Mods done as usualy the aircraft spent a few weeks there having mods carried out, obviously this would depend on what was being modded.
Interesting to note, he logged a ferry trip in XF730 from Biteswell to St Mawgan on the 2nd of July 1969
Hang on Mike
Wasn’t Tanker pool behind 405 hangar back in the 70s?
Baz :diablo:
Yep sure was Baz, but ours is (was rather:( ) far better, so poetic licence in this instance is authorised 😉

Can’t think of anything that rhymes with tanker:confused:
allow me 🙂 http://www.rhymer.com/RhymingDictionaryLast/tanker.html
Funnily enough, Dr Strangelove was a bowser driver at St Mawgan as well.
Although Matadors are even a tad before my time, all our bowsers had the convenience of automatic gearboxes 😀
My bowser driver contact mentioned that hill saying it was a barsteward in a Matador due to all the gear changes of the crash box.
Thats a point, don’t forget to do tanker pool (just off the Treloy line);)

now sadly unused as a tanker pool 🙁
two tankers for 2 Sea Kings! A bit OTT I thought.
Not really, when you take into account servicing & possible unservicabilty, last thing an S&R flight needs is a thirsty chopper;)

Avtur makes great diesel, just add a dash of oil to keep the pump sweet & off you go. 😉
Yep, it’s F34 FSII , I’d be suprised if it’s all been nicked, more likely been lost in cross bulks poorly calculated, drain offs & hose flushing.
First port of call for the fuzz would be near by pikey encampments
Sea Harriers used AVCAT F44 but could use F34 as well, often the navy types caught the unwary refueller operator out on de-fuels thus contaminating a tanker with F34 in it- pays to check first.
Krueger’s Men by Lawrence Malkin
Outstanding book, going into detail about Operation Bernhard, the German counterfeit operation in WWII.
.
How did they manage to carry 6000 litre of fuel? In jerry cans?
Sort of crossed my mind too, if they were using cans it would’ve taken ages just to get 6000ltrs out of a tankers using gravity from the drain off points, to blow the fuel out using the vehicles PTO driven pump would be much quicker, but to do that they’d have to start the vehicle (no problemo if using a Pi-key;) ) & know how it worked, plus of course with the PTO & engine running you do make a bit of a din.
Alternatively, they may have had their own vehicle that had a suction point, but once again, lots of noise & pretty slow due to pump cavitation.
Very odd all over really:confused:
