XV230 consequently became the first aircraft to enter operational service with the RAF when it arrived at St Mawgan on October 2nd 1969 for the type’s newly formed Operational Conversion Unit (OCU).

One in the eye for that “other” Nimrod base that often claimed the first rites.

Alarm bells were ringing when they made you redundant Baz, how badly in trouble is an airport when view that chopping the BCU as a good idea, I’d call it a dubious piece of cost cutting at best.

Now, at the risk of speaking out of turn, or indeed appearing naive, Plymouth is a pretty substantial city, lots of business’s based there as well as lots of people, it’s on main arterial routes & isn’t that far from the M5, sooooo….. if they are closing due to the “economic downturn” then what hope for Newquay Airport in the long term? Newquay is way off the beaten track, is a ghost town in the winter & suffers from high level of unemployment, the holiday season is now clipped to about 2 months of the summer at best, 180 degrees of the catchment area is in the Atlantic ocean.

I’m kind of curious to what occurs when all that grant money from the EU runs out, will my council tax be adjusted to a few a million a year to keep the show on the road?

James are you not surprised that Number 3 ran so well? lol I am!!!

James shouldn’t be surprised, as when I stripped down the engine of his Ford Ranchero I discovered a camshaft without the bumps. http://www.mocgb.net/forums/images/smilies/yahoo/71.gif

Odd thing was that the Ranchero ran acceptably, it was obviously worn & the newness had worn off, but it went ok. http://www.mocgb.net/forums/images/smilies/yahoo/39.gif

It was probably a cunning plot from our “intelligence service” to tie up dozens of engineers trying to get the sabre running then kill off a German test pilot when the tail fell off.

PMSL:D Probably not that far removed from the truth http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/images/icons/icon14.gif

You silly things, it’s supposed to white on the top & grey on the sides, you’ve got it the wrong way around! Guess you’ll have to do it again.http://www.mocgb.net/forums/images/smilies/yahoo/71.gif

Only joking, looks absolutely stunning! http://www.mocgb.net/forums/images/smilies/yahoo/41.gif

Very sad – she was one of the best Doctor’s companions in my opinion.

    Agreed, a sad loss.

Could never pin this down to my ex, but it was probably one of her well meaning cohorts, my dear old XR2 got a screwdriver through the radiator & both door mirrors smashed off, oddly enough that was on day I presented the divorce papers to the court personally.

Happy to report that the XR2 was back on the road literally within minutes as I worked for a car accessory shop at the time & all the bits were on the shelf items 😀

Fortunately I didn’t have the Mustang back then, messing with that qualifies the perpetrator for a free trip to the 25M range.
