Project 15B has been sanctioned..more destroyers for the IN

    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/CCS-nod-for-4-more-stealth-destroyers/articleshow/7085980.cms

A total of 7 would allow for 2 to always be available > the number of carrier groups available (and possible given 3 carriers). Similar numbers of P16-series, Talwar and P17-series frigates, suggest an escort group of 1 destroyer plus 2-3 frigates (6-7 ASW helicopters), and maybe supported by 1-2 corvettes and an AOR.

Russia defense minister denies plans to build aircraft carriers

Russia is not planning to build any new aircraft carriers in the foreseeable future, Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said on Friday.

“No, there are no such plans,” he said.

His comment came in response to remarks earlier in the day by an unnamed Defense Ministry source who said Russia would start the construction of a new series of aircraft carriers.
    Full Story

    From that article:

Naval experts earlier said a new aircraft carrier would be nuclear powered with displacement of 50,000-60,000 tons.

i.e. a Kuznetsov size carrier with the nuclear power plant of the significantly bigger Ul’yanovsk.

Taiwan turns to Russia for submarines after US stall: report

Taiwan has sought help from Russia to upgrade its submarines after a lack of progress in plans to buy new subs from the United States, a report said on Wednesday.

The Taiwanese military sent a team to Russia in October to inquire about replacing the frames of its four ageing submarines, said the Next magazine, citing unnamed sources.

After the team met a shipbuilder in Moscow, Taiwan’s defence and intelligence authorities are now evaluating the possibility of collaborating with Russia, it said.

They’ve been stalled foor too long in the area of subs. Not surprising therefor that they would explore other alternatives.

That’s more then the range of Harpoon, so the munition is by far cheaper, and also longer ranged, and harder to intercept, and would make Harpoon obsolete, if it isn’t already.
Only catch is just how much it’s gonna cost to make this gun work.

And, IIRC, the munition uses kinetic rather than chemical energy to detroy the target. Which makes is far safer to have onboard, as it contains no explosives.

FL3000N is the export model and the domestic version is called HQ-10. They are not exactly the same for obvious reasons. HQ-10 could be more like SeaRAM than FL3000N. We will see when they uncover the tarp.

If so, the launcher on Varyag would appear to have (6) fewer rounds than the supposed export model: no single missiles in the bottom left and right of the box, no top row. Not sure what “obvious reasons” dictate such a difference. If there were a version more like SeaRam, then I would expect that launcher to have radar and ELOP devices similar to those found on Type 730. Where the gatling gun mounts of the Typ730 initially installed without those devices, when they first appeared on the 052B/C ships?

Incidentally, HQ10??!!?? > isn’t that a long range VL system akin to S300?

    FL-3000N?

I’m still puzzled by this: the underside of the launcher box appears a better match with RAM than with FL3000N. And in other aspects (notably frontal), the box of the alledged FL3000N appears less tall than in other imagery we’ve seen of this system.

2500 Tons does seem a little on the light side, especially if you have an organic air component including a NH aircraft.

SLightly larger than Milgem, MEKO A100, which represent the top end of corvettes i.e. a smallish frigate, light frigate, like Floreal, Lekiu, maybe even
    F22P.

    Hi

This is another interesting system available in the market.

Yes, certainly. It appears to not cover 360 degree though.

Sorry Wanshan, this last article that talks about China is actually from an Australian newspaper that seems to be incensed with the “clear menace” represented to Australia by the Chinese naval build-up, if you look in the same article there a a series of links to other articles, published once or twice every month dending this idea that Australia would be the “Martyr” of any US – China conflict in the Pacific… Thus my comments!, Sorry if my mind wondered too quickly aheade of my typing, 😉

    Regards,

    Hammer

My mistake: focus too much and you miss important context 😉
