Wow this is a great thread…Really…
A mate of mine is a Spitfire veteran,Sicilly,Italy and Burma and he has been in combat and been fired upon.Last thing you worry about is your plane falling apart. You will push it and yourself to the absalute limits and quite often over it to stay “alive”.Flying Hf MkIX,s in Burma he and a few others came back from there first sorties with the Spits with wrinkled wing skins due to pulling out of dives against Japanese planes. As they say…”everything in the left hand corner”…
Woohooo,one of these threads.
And dependent on pilots skill.A superior pilot can get the most out of a substantially worse plane vs a poor pilot in a better performing plane.A war weary plane flies worse than a new version too. Also include luck into the equation this is one of those questions that need to be very specific in asking.;)
Call it anything you like…
As long as it looks like a Spit when it,s finished and we can go Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh,Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh at it… Knowing my skills at the moment it is called a aluminium reprowrecktion.Hey we are having fun!!!!;) And that,s the important thing….

Can,t get any better than that….
When Mark12 speaks of Spitfire wisdom,it is pretty much 100% correct…Except when he,s not…….(very,very rare):D
Wheeling around…
Great stuff.Apparently along similar lines a company down the range bought a lot of old Spitfire/Kittyhawk/Boomerang wheels from the clearence sales after the war and put them on new build Hay carts.Still a couple of them around I,ve heard.Farmers used the oleo,s for hydraulic rams as well.We are an inventive lot us colonials…
