Hey Rijnko,
Nice seing you here. Show us the pics of the Stirling panel:cool:;)
Cheers
Cees
Anything similar carried beneath any aircraft not designed for that purpose would look less than aerodynamic.
Cees
The Dutch example has the frames cut off just short of the floor.
So that would have to be spliced into anew. And that is if they would be prepared to let the section go.
Cees
Everything about the Stirling is BIG!:p
Good progress is being made, good news for
2010.
Cees
Reading their website that is not the implication. It reads as always being a Martinet project (TT.1 MS902) that along the way has incorporated some Master components.
Jon
Thanks Jon,
My information was based on an article in flypast in the early eighties (you
know, printed on recyclied toiletpaper and full of interesting recovery bits, things have changed over the years:cool:)
Cees
This is turning into a surviving Tiffy bits thread, not that I mind though.
But I noticed that the Belgian Sabre engine bits that were donated to BAHAAT a few years ago have been restored and put on display.
Where’s EHVB when you need him;)
Cees
In the Battle of Britain then and now (Afthe the Battle) there is a two page report on the recovery of the only Whirlwind to crash during the BoB.
Don’t know if this is the Steve Vizard wreck.

This is the one, they turned it into a Martinet instead. Not that I object though, it’s a magnificent project.
Cees
There used to be a project to recreata a Master but that one has turned into the radial powered version.

Mine was from another source but is the same as the link…crying shame about this one although the RAF were just as bad with their last one, well before they found out there was a spare in the US!!!
There have been a number of rumours of a pair of wings surviving in France…never been confirmed. You never know they could be from this machine and somewhere in Belgium instead 🙂 one can dream I suppose 🙂
Dave,
Rumours always start somewhere, where did they originate from? I also remember that in the early flypast days Mike Cookman usually had an ad asking for any Typhoon bits and there was one rumour about a set of wings being used as a fence in Britain. Same rumour but different countries?
Cees
I have it but was dissapointed when I saw it.
Cees
I was told that the Stirling wings resemble the Sunderland but not quite. Pity as that Chatham Island wreck would have made a nice opportunity to source them.
Cees
The Whirlwind surely must be the most favourite aircraft type on this forum so about time to start a project to recreate one?
IIRC Steve Vizard had long term plans in that direction?
Now where to find the funding.
Cheers
Cees
John,
How about the various connectors to the “black boxes” in the wireless postion? The thick cables (wirewound or whatever they were called) together with the various connectors, do you have those as well. Are these sourceable in the UK? The RAF bombers were crammed full of them.
Cheers
Cees
Alan,
You have a PM.
