The usual question would be: are there any partnumbers on it?

By the end of last week the team have found one of the Hercules engines and the serialnumber on that corresponded with one of those fitted to BK716, so definitive confirmation at last.

    Thanks John,

As usual they are ignoring the original group that has done all the legwork for them. At first they couldn’t even find the wrecksite despite the gps-information we gave them.

    Fingers crossed.

    John,

Have the Dutch authorities confirmed your assistance?

You know how it works with these projects when authorities are involved. The group who have found and identified the wreck is totally ignored and

they seek assistance from abroad. Our organisation has had no problems identifying any wreckage recovered so far

My goodness, this forum is effectively dead. RIP.

    Pity,

That’s good news, during my visit to Airframe Assemblies in 2018 they were working on the tailsection.

No, that was a bit of a cock up as a result of the BBC-article. The wreckage is spread over a very large area and it would cost too much and put other recoveries in jeopardy.

Someone wanted to make big bucks out of this, which is a pity and causes useless stress to the families of the missing aircrew.

A lot of people just don’t know what it takes to plan such a recovery, but they have an opinion about it nevertheless.

    John,

The recovery of BK716 is to start on August 31st, you never know what might come up.

    Hi GC,

There were plenty of losses in the Alps, but that is a very nice SBC (Small Bomb Container). These were used by all Bomber Command types.

Any other parts found next to this SBC?

    Cheers

The only other throttle boxes I know that are similar were used in the Hampden and Wellington.

It looks similar to the Blocktube throttle box as used in the Halifax. It seems the middel lever is missing. May I suggest that it could be the bottom row of levers of a

    Halifax throttle box?

Could it be that it was cut out and the rims trimmed for display?

I remember seeing a document published in a magazine or book with small written text: flew on 5th of March or something in that fashion. Before that it was always 6th of March 1936.

Halifax W1048 at Hendon has a similar panel.

Wasn’t the first edition of that book published before definitive proof of the first flight came to light?
