You make any like these?
I am looking for good quality fuel gauge replicas to finish the Hampden panel.
Cees
I was told that when received there were plans to restore it to resemble a MLD Firefly I using tailparts from a crashed example.
That was before the financial difficulties that Aviodrome suffered unfortunately. A restored Firefly would surely fill a much needed
hole in our Dutch heritage. Soesterberg would be a safer bet now, but if there are plans to transfer/exchange it I don’t know.
(wishful thinking perhaps)
Cees
Nice gauge, I could use that one for the Hampden panel, although too much capacity, the majority of the fuelgauges go for silly prices as being
sold for Spitfire use.
Cees
Didn’t they get two unrestored Fireflies from the same place? Where is the other one?
That Firefly has been in storage at Lelystad care of the Aviodrome, it hasn’t been touched since it arrived and the only thing it collects is dust. Considering the recent financial problems don’t think it will ever be restored. The Aviodrome is now a children’s playground with an aviation theme.
Pity
Cees
Dave, Ian,
This is your chance!
Cees
Was thinking about that.
If the sparfittings are damaged and alignment is out, that must affect the scanning results too. Is this known and will this be corrected in
the final result Ian?
Cees
Any news on what the plans are for Halifax PN323’s cockpit? When I saw it last november it was gutted.
Cees
Nice progress Ian,
Airfix uses Lidar to scan real airframes, although I am told (not an expert) that it is no wondertool and has its quirks. But your way of scanning MN235 at least
gives a lot of needed information. For the internals I presume surviving wreckage will provide most answers? We (where RB396 came from) have an undercarriage-leg
with bits of spar and fueltank on display, perhaps pics can be useful?
In France many Typhoons have been dug and must be on display.
Good luck with a fantastic project.
Cees
Really does, more pics would be nice.
I will be at Telford during the weekends of 7/8 november, but going back on the sundayevening. So a visit to the MBCC will not be possible,
or will they?
Cees
Bob,
Didn’t know it was going to fly? It has been very quiet a long time about that one. perhaps that is a good thing though.
Cees
And the Tempest, a type which unfortunately has something of a bad restoration track record. Hope it works out in the end.
Some surprises eh,……the boo is outdated already?
Or the Hurricane boo… as well?
Cees
They should exist side by side. Both sides have their merits.
IMHO
Cees
As soon as CWH’s Bolingbroke is finished, bring it over to the UK for some formation flying with the short nose version.
Who is willing to restore a Battle to airworthy condition?:p
Cees
If it dove straight into sof land, I am very curious how much of the airframe will be found, it could be very substantial.
Cees
Very fitting,
We had such a case too during 2000 when a Manchester crewmember passed away and his last wish was to be buried next to his former crewmembers
at Bergen cemetery. The aircraft having crashed in 1942. His grave is only marked by a plaque in the grass.
