I will be surprised if it will ever be recovered instead of being talked about at lenght.
On the other hand I can image that having these kind of relics/wrecks on display at a national collection Joe Public will
start to complain the aircraft are not pristine.
Recover and restore or recover and preserve, both sides have their merits and disavantages.
Better just keep talking about it.

Got my copy yesterday evening, started reading immediately, very nice book. Some interesting projects I had not heard of before.
Noticed that a certain Hurricane project on a UK-website was not included in the book. So not listed as a full project but more
as an assortment of spare parts, including a centre section?
    Well done Gordon.

I must say that it is sad to read what complaints are there regarding the RAF Museum. It has a first class international collection spanning over 100 years of British aviation.
Of course a lot of the complaints are or have been reality, but nevertheless…. You would think that the management would do something constructive with it.
When I last visited two years ago I noticed something had been removed from the Bomber Command hall, when I got home I read here that the Typhoon had been
    removed some days previously.;)
Musea always can’t always do it right, but let’s hope they put some things right in the near future.
Making national collections free in the UK is a good idea to lower the threshold for the general public but the downside is less income.
I don’t mind to pay an entrance fee.

    Gert,
You can also visit Fort Veldhuis, Heemskerk to see half a Mossie B Mk IV wing on display there.
    Closer to home.

Because of location I would think instruments, equipment and engines would be American made.

Ordered mine yesterday, and can’t wait to receive it. Now what’s the follow up?
Mosquito survivors, Halifax/Hampden survivors (would really like that one, and no I am not an author)
Gloster survivors, the list is endless.

Have they also measured the Hampden parts? A new kit is also long overdue.
Good to see Airfix doing what they are good at.
Kits, boxart etc. Really liked the 1/24 Typhoon, although I normally build 1/32.

Is it possible to amend the title? I thought he had passed away upon reading it.

Indeed, I posted this with Zugersee in the title. Strange.
The camerafilm was indeed from a B17 that came down in the IJsselmeer (former Zuiderzee).

Very very nice, I really like those one man projects. Shows what can be done with just determination.
But errr, if it was me I would not have my photo taken with a lot of bombfuses on display in the background…………

    Markt,
The wing was recovered and lies next to her at Hendon, the engine was not. The wing was still attached when crashing although bent backwards, it broke off when W1048 was dropped on the lakebed due to the recovery, twice!! If the bent forward fuselage was caused by this too I do not know. But she was in a better position after recovery but the conservation process at the time with that dreadful red preservative, but that was all they had then.

I think that Hendon has to have a restored Halifax on display to complement the Lancaster. Otherwise it’s a graphic image of the famous Lancaster in pristibe condition and the poor also served Halifax lying around as a derelict wreck. Not to mention the absense of a Stirling ( or restored sections thereof). That is what the younger generaties thinks. And the RAFM has an educational function to give the correct story.
