It’s a thirty footer, when you enter the hangar and see it from a distance you think where did they get that one from (seen from thirty feet away). Looking closer you would think: hmmm…
I really liked the program though.

This is just to generate discussion to see the various views about museum storage. Not to be seen as critisism for musea hiding away treasures.
Personally, our our storage area is overcrowed and I hope to get more interesting bits put on display. It also saves on storage room.

Hidden gems is actually the title of a series a national newspaper in The Netherlands has every Saturday, devoting a spread to an unknown object in storage with a Dutch museum. A very popular series.

    Eric,
What paper is that? I only read the Spit going to work by metro sometimes.

What is a good idea by the RAFM is their navigator where you can see what’s in store.

But it’s a pity when they have an unused Halifax nose transparency in store that would look great on YAM’s example.

I was there on monday too. Spoke to one of the staff. He mentioned that recovery is scheduled for spring next year. Funding was sorted he said. The lifting frame is ready as well. Very nice chap. Took many pics of the Hampden (obviously) and Wimpy. There are some underwater wrecks under scrutiny. They have a pilot’s seat from Canada.
    Enjoyed myself immensely.

    Thanks for the replies chaps,
This particular Heinkel crashed in june 1940 after returning from a mission near Britain. It was based at Schellingwoude seaplane base near Amsterdam. It turned over when trying to land. The remains were discovered in 2003 during a survey before part of the water was reclaimed to build houses of what is now IJburg. It is fresh water so corrosion is slight, the props are in very good condition and we plan to soak the hubs with WD40 for a while.

Any info about the technicalities and tools is very much required, Andy i will send you an eail.
