Saw it last month and it didn’t look very airworthy, paint was very weathered (an modellers dream) same as the Sunderland. Paint peeling everywhere. Wonder if they ever fly again.

Depends on which reality you rely.
I got the book (didn’t know it was published until Mark mentioned it) and just finished it. Good read and very interesting to learn about the genesis of the Spitfire design.
Then again, whatever books or documents are unearthed or published, the myths or follies still persist.
Cees
Hi there,
I think everyone is still here. Thanks for you reply. Very interesting to read about your father’s artwork. At first I planned to paint a known nose art on the cockpit but later decided against it.
Otherwise it would replicate something that had been there already.
Now it is an anonymous Halifax representing the 7.176 (7.178 depending on the source) built Halifaxes.
An unsung workhorse but second to none to quote Mr Victor Bingham.

I am glad there are “ugly” aeroplanes too, otherwise we only would have musea full of pretty Spits and Lancasters.:diablo:
Cees
Paul,
Ach jah Werner, I knew the first name was incorrect.:o
There was debate between “experts” (not me) that it was either an E1 or E3
but as Mark has also mentioned it is considered to be indeed an E1.
Haase was slightly injured.
Cees
Yes, it’s an E-1 flown by Hermann Haase IIRC and ditched 11 may 1940 which makes it a very significant find for Dutch History. The engine and one wing are still to be recovered. Hopefully it will go to Soesterberg.
Cees
That may be true, but that generation had their time with those aircraft and saw plenty of them. Future generations will have no chance of ever seeing one if we let the Dornier be destroyed because a few people want to hurry the Hampden restoration.
I think that is your perception. RAF Museum doesn’t hurry their restoration projects.
Perhaps the National Lottery can be of help.
Cees
IIRC there is a Fury project underway in Canada, according to Classic Wings magazine some time back.
Cees
While waiting for news on the Burmese Spits, over on WIX two Spits seem to
be under investigation in Australia. Any news Mark?
Cees
IIRC when visiting Shoreham in 2003 I saw a Typhoon elevator.
Cees
Try the IWM at Duxford, they should be able to help you.
Cees
Update, We can confirm it’s W1217, any further information anyone of you can provide is hugely appreciated, although there are no missing crewmembers as far as we can ascertain.
Cheers
Cees
Wow, that’s what I call a thorough overhaul.

I visited Fantasy of Flight early september and was shown around the storage area by “Speedy”, at least that was his nickname:cool:
Saw the Ki61 wing up close and the condition was remarkable. The Japanese stencilling was clearly visible on the wing bomb racks and all piping etc looked to be complete. A real time capsule. Saw some nice goodies in there.
