Peter Jackson at some time has promised to do a WW1 aviation film…an easy project for him since he owns many ww1 planes! That would be worth a look.

Saw the theatre trailer this weekend, it’s close to completion because it gets released in December and it also stars Andy Serkis (of Gollum fame)…the time frame is the late 30’s (like the original) and it looked really pretty good….at least better than the other crap that was coming out….however, ‘Narnia: The lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’ also looked like it might be worth a go…

Oh, christ, that’s just the tip of the iceberg, kids….having watched this series OVER and OVER again you can see snippets of film that were also used in the movie ‘Midway’, some from ‘Tora Tora’, lots of other bits form other films and ad=viation movies…and sometimes, LIKE in Midway, they show a plane on a bombing run and it’s not even a Corsair, but what the heck..it was only a TV series. It has’nt hit my video store yet, but it will or I will order it. My fave episode was the one with Boyington Vs. Harachi called ‘Devil in the Slot’, where they both take off at a pre-appointed time to do one on one battle with each other in the skies over the Slot…cornball stuff but GREAT flying sequences (which is why ANYONE should buy this series)…and some guest appearances by other planes that still exist here and there…and some that unfortunately don’t.

Fantastic stuff…gotta see this bird when I get back over there…probably the most historic of Corsairs due to it’s original condition…would be a fascinating chance to see it ‘right off the flight deck as is…’ A total contrast to the restorations of today, which are no less spectacular….just the other end of the restoration spectrum!

Last I heard, and I don’t know if this still stands, Michael Mann, who just directed Cruise and Jamie Foxx in ‘Collateral’ (and which was an excellent movie) had signed on to do the directing, and he is apparently a stickler for detail and accuracy….so if he’s still attached, it could be one helluva film…
Personally, I’d love to see Spielberg do it also…him and Crusie working together again, and IMAGINE what the aerial scenes would look like….

I’m sensing a LOT of sarcasm on this thread for some reason….

Yeah, it may be the best option…and it is close…I would just like to see the Iowa go somewhere where it’s right in the mix of things (a big city port like the inner harbor at Baltimore) where the Iowa would get the attention it deserves…in my opinion San Fran, after being a major Naval destination for YEARS, has REALLY and Unexplicably DROPPED THE BALL on this one, especially at a time when the prevailing sentiment is to show SUPPORT for our troops…seems San Fran is running against the wind on that particular point….and while Stockton mightbethe best (and probably will be the winning) choice…ask yourself…how many people got to Stockton compared to San Francisco?
Mark
Well, if it’s the one pictured…it’s a Black Sheep TV vet…enjoy it, it’s a beautiful machine…
Mark
Well Goddamnit…that really pisses me off…I think the Iowa oughta be withdrawn completely from the Bay area (they now no longer DESERVE such a treasure as her) and put it in San Diego where they HONOR the navy’s legacy, or some such other place (word has it they have a big ship in Long Beach….care to make it 2?)
We need to find her a better home….maybe even further NORTH along the western coastline, like Seattle or Portland or something like that…
Mark
Actually the Iowa is in limbo while the city of San Francisco and the city of Stockton battle over which city will get it…I find myself pulling for San Fran as they will attract more visitors to the ship than Stockton ever could, they plan on putting it at a pier formerly used by cruise ships and making quite a display out of it….
So now we have a home for all four of them (or will soon)…the Missouri in Pearl Harbor, the New Jersey in Camden, NJ, the Wisconsin in Hampton Roads, VA and now the imminent installation of the Iowa at a place NEAR San Francisco…so far I’ve been on a whole ONE of them…LOL.

Off the tip of my brain…
Cremat my dumb ass and put my ashes somewhere high and scenic in the Rocky Mountains here in CO….I’ll be happy with that.

“Think in terms of bridges burned….
Think of seasons that must pass….
See the rivers rise and fall…
They will rise and fall again…
Everything must have an end,
Like an ocean to a shore,
Like a river to a stream……
Like a river to a stream,
It’s the famous final scene…”
Bob Seger, The Famous Final Scene
I only heard about this tragedy today (7/26) via a phone call from a friend of mine here in CO who had talked to AIB and heard via Andy that Steve had died. I never met him like so many here, but read most of his posts in the aviation and many other forums and enjoyed his work and got the occasional PM from him to which I would respond. Denise and I both join in hoping that Julie and Haydn will be alright in the aftermath of this tragedy and that those of you closer to them geographically will be around to help them through these tough times…we can only offer our support from afar. He will be missed, both by those who knew him well, who knew him a little, and by those who had hoped to meet him and add a new friend to their lives. A person never really dies as long as their memory is kept alive.
