Now that IS unique…a Coast Guard paint scheme on an N3N….I like it (being ex Coast Guard)….only other warbird I can think of painted up Coast Guard is Connie Edward’s Albatross float plane…

Easy for YOU to say, YOU’VE got a flying Connie now and we’re down to ONE over here, and the last time I saw IT (the Save a connie bird) was back in 1994!!

Sad, sad sad sad…..feel like an old friend just died, quite frankly….this plane WILL be misse and I’m glad I still have a couple of T-shirts from her concession stand and a good pile of pics of her in action…

I HATE that they plan to retire her from flying….wish Vern could’ve found someone to keep her going….what, was Kermit broke or what?

No, the strut is too small…as well as the wheel size…for a B-17…..maybe a nose strut from a Connie?

Ummmm…I’m confused…I thought the Carl Vinson was supposed to be the last US carrier to employ the F-14…unless the Vinson is still deployed and the ‘Truman’ is visiting the UK on its way home, which would make the Vinson the last one, indeed…anyone know?

We have a place off of I-70 into the mountains called Buffalo Herd overlook and a place that’s supposed to represent Cody’s grave, but I believe his REAL remains are buried in South Dakota…unless they William Wallace’d him and he’s in BOTH places. Not a far drive from Denver, about a half an hour….real Buffalo at the overlook too, kinda cool.

Hey, that’s what makes hockey great here in the States (when it gets played)…arguments are settled on the ice between the players and then it’s over….really rather efficient, and good entertainment.

When i went to boot camp at Cape May, NJ in April 1982 I had the first ever black female company commander…a good lady put into a tough job (she got picked on by the other CC’s, as did we all) but we made it through. Another first for the CG.

Interesting stuff….I was there for the first round of ‘renovations’ when the ‘Bear’ class cutters came online as well as the newest of the Helicopters (none of which could land in the water like the old H-3’s and HH-52’s), the new Falcon jets (which I am now told are not efficient) and everything making the conversion to computers and computer control (our captain tried using a computer to moor the ship to the pier one time….we broke three railroad ties on the pier!) I hope the new improvements of Project Deepwater help out one of the best of the US services, underappreciated and underfunded as they are but immensely appreciated by those who work on and live near the water….we have a legacy of doing more with less and I hope that they get to do more….with MORE for once…

Don’t know about the ‘deepwater’ plan…what is it?

I was a Seaman 1c on her, we made fisheries patrols, drug patrols, search and rescue, went to the America’s Cup when they lost it to the Aussies (great time in Newport, RI)…lots of adventures….rescued the crew of the s/v ‘Windermere’ and placed them on the tanker ‘British Resolution’ for safe keeping…wonder if THAT ship is still around? When we were in port, we painted her….always painting her….rust shows up REAL well on an all white surface…

    Lots of good memories…

The girl who I work airshows with and I were at DX in 2000 when we got to do some pics of some famous pilots-Johnny Johnson, Gunther Rall, Bud Mahurin, John Cruickshank and Bill Reed…and as we were shooting the photos (about 10 of us photogs out there that day), Bill Reed asked us if we had what we needed, to which we all responded basically that we were happy….as the group of pilots broke up, Bill came straight over to Denise (the girl I work with) and grabbed her by both hands and said “Oh goody, now I can go have another pint!” and dropped her hands and walked off with the rest of the boys. To this day I wish I had taken a photo of this event, just for the expression on Denise’s face and to remember the moment for posterity.
