I’m in a Fifth air force B-25 skip bombing ships or parafragging a Jap airstrip in the south pacific or in the cockpit of a Corsair flying alongside my old landlord Capt. John Foster (“Hell in the Heavens”) with VMF-222 or any other Corsair squadron out there….damn right I’d go…

Hmmm…not a whole lot here, Rob….checking pg. 69 of ‘Corsair aces of WWII’ by Mark Styling, all I could find said that the British were at that time blooding their Corsairs attacking the Tirpitz, but later they did hit Sabang on 25 July (no name to this operation that I see)…however apparently they acted in concert with the Saratoga’s air wing, but they ALL took a back seat to the battleship’s guns of the US Navy when they sent in 3 battleships, 7 cruisers, and 2 destroyers to bombard targets at Sabang….don’t know what planes were used but could imagine Corsairs and Hellcats from both countries alongside Seafires, Fireflies and TBM’s….over to you.

Scary, isn’t it! It IS a great flick that is always fun to watch with folks who have never seen it before (it became a topic of discussion at work today amongst those who had seen it and those who had’nt….those who HAD reciting lines from it all day long….which tells you what a boring job I have….!) Good movies are never forgotten, great comedies are frequently quoted….

“It’s a mother lovin’ BEAUTIFUL movie…..and it’s GONNA be at the video store….”

I’d follow the first photo ANYWHERE….

Something about these pics I like, they have GRAIN which gives them texture and character, like looking at a handful of 8×10 enlargements…don’t know if it’s because of the enlarged image vs. the original scan size or if you used a grainier film (400?), but they look great….a great batch of shots.

Maybe someone can talk to the US Navy and work a deal for all of our now-almost retired F-14’s for a bargain basement price….be nice to see SOMETHING happen with those as opposed to being gate guards, museum pieces and left rotting in the Arizone desert…

Interesting photo, Mk.12, of you? in front of the Spit….Greenwood had’nt changed the markings on her yet in your photo, she is still wearing the WK-C side codes as opposed to the RJ-M that she now wears….Greenwood makes the Jaunt EVERY year, same for Sun n Fun and same for Midland…providing the plane is airworthy.

Went for the second time 2 summers ago with friends from the UK who had never been before, they were utterly blown away by it and could’nt believe all that they saw…we wandered the ramp from the show center to the south and it took all afternoon to do, stopping and seeing things and talking with folks and watching the show (the thing that caught their interest the most was Jimmy Franklin with his Waco with a Jet engine on it!)
It is an experience not to be believed, even if you just limit yourself to the warbird area and do nothing else….but you don’t want to do that, there is SIMPLY too much to see…

Just reminds me how much I long to add it to my collection…I think the whole movie is hilarious (“To a New Yorker like you, a Hero is some kinda weird samwich!”) and you DO have to take it with a grain of salt cuz that’s how it is presented…one of the great war comedies of all time with a great cast of characters (Once heard Don Rickles at a roast for Clint Eastwood talking about how he worked on this movie with Clint and joking how he NEVER got a decent movie roll ever again afterwards). I think it’s worth it’s weight in gold….but that’s just me!

Great, Sieglitz, you’re ‘Sam’ from Lord of the Rings…that is Sean Astin in the pic above, he starred in the Goonies movie with Martha Plimpton and the Japanese kid who played ‘Short Round’ in the second Indiana Jones flick.

Um…ok…did’nt expect this thread to end up THAT way….but then I stayed away from the Navy because they DID have a tendency towards a higher homosexuality rate (being away from port and WOMEN for all those months at a time), joined the Coast Guard instead (two weeks at a time at sea with a break in port somewhere after week one)…
I guess it could be construed as a bunch of macho guys prancing around….but I never thought of it that way, just liked it for the flying….Monty Python should do a remake, it’d be bloody hilarious…
