A scan from a PRINT of that same event….I don’t like the capabilities of the negative scanner I have….so always go to the print, I reckon….anyway, a much more legible shot…

Have’nt heard on the ex-Lyons -P-38…and am also curious whether or not it’s true Lefty’s old bird is going to Europe…?

Got the extended version of TTT on DVD this last christmas with the ‘making of’ on it, some great commentary by the american director, like the fact that some of the ships that were made for the scenes of the Jap fleet plowing through the storm (specifically tyhe carriers) were 40 foot long models made to look like the real think and move slowly and ponderously like the actual ships did at full size, then they shot those scenes in the storm on high speed film so that they could be slowed down to make the ships look like they were really struggling through the storm…

In actuality, let us also recall that TTT WAS told from a partial Japanese viewpoint as half of the film was filmed in Japan and sent to America to be blended in with what was shot over here by us Yanks, so it was a collaborative effort, not just an American viewpoint type of movie.

Definitely the Iowa class battleships, the last of their breed and just incredibly gorgeous…saw the Missouri going up the coast in California one time (maybe it was New Jersey?) at sunset, only WISH I had had my camera with me at that time….

Second would be the Essex class carriers of WWII, very nice looking ships, I think….but my heart lies with the battleships…

So would anyone care that I saw it on American television not so long ago, on one of those funny video shows? They bleeped deCadenet’s more ‘colorful’ comments after the take off….still fun to see, laughed my ass off…
