I would probably take the trip to OZ, with your estimated wage drop(more than i earn a year, but i’m not jealous!!!)it would appear nigh on impossible to continue current lifestyle.Take the opportunity to explore the job market down there if things don’tgo well because you have already conceeded there is nothing locally for you. As a point I have an uncle to which a similar thing happened about 10yrs ago,he moved with the company to the States and has not looked back since.

Because the bulk of the origin and destination market from London passes through Heathrow. This market is essential to our overseas trade, as well as being beneficial to our internal trade. If Heathrow does not grow with our economy then the traffic will move to more competitive airports such as Frankfurt or Amsterdam which are able to absorb the demand.

Once the traffic starts moving that way it will soon turn to a torrent, as the O&D traffic at Heathrow is sustained by the huge hub system the airport operates. Once the hub system diminishes this downward spiral increases rapidly because of the nature of a hub airport The O&D traffic moves via other airports _AMS, FRA etc) making our economy less competitive.

This as well as the fact that as an independent economic entity it is responsible for employing much of West London…

I don’t understand the O&D terminology but I do get the gist of yor reply. Now I ask can another airport not be developed/expanded in parrallel with Hearthrow in the short term then over take it at a later date.Surely heathrow must be getting close to a safe capacity and further expansion past this third runway must surely be pushing the grounds of credibility .As for employment ,other areas would benefit from expansion and increased employment too.

sorry to be a “numpty” on the subject, but what are these economic grounds which make Heathrow so important at the expense of the rest of the country ,and seamingly rational developement of other airports.I’ve read somewhere that Heathrow would never be built today as the approach is over a too densely populated area. If this is true why increase the volme of traffic and hence the probabillity of an “accident”

I went down this route before under the thread title of “air taxi is it feasable?” It started from the jet pod idea but I proposed autogyros but it eventually ended up as a no go.It will be intresting to see how Richard gets on with it.

The technology we need for this is already proven. It’s called the Space Shuttle. All we really need to do is refine the design to make it reusable (as in one object, not four) and add a bomb bay. Problem solved.

Weapons delivery from space troubles me , all fine and dandy until someone has contermeasures to destroy your delivery system. This would result in space debris with no garantees of it all burning in the atmosphere leading to indescriminate destruction of innocent lives and property, you may as well carpet bomb with a dodgey compass. Secondly any debris remaining in orbit evectively becomes a meteorite with the capability to destroy your vital satelites and/or other manned missions.
To effectively “bomb” from space you first have to own space and that means you have to defend it and to do that you must be prepared to launch pre-emptive strikes on any country. Are you prepared to do that? Can you afford to do that??

In my single days I tried to impress a rather attractive young lady at the bus stop opposite my folks home . On leaving the house in the morning I noticed a flat tyre on the car ,so taking the opportunity to show of my mechanical prowess I proceeded to execute a rapid formula 1 style wheel change swiftly followed by an equally rapid reversing of the car into the gate post.
