Bae 146 for Carrier on-board delivery for RN? 🙂 Here’s hoping!

If that video is anything to go by it might not even need much modification! 😀

Would the addition of a boom require major structural modifications or is it just a case of bolting it on?

Is there an English language list of criterion for this competition available somewhere?

It’s always seemed to me like more F-16s would be the answer, given their proven strike capability and ample capacity to handle the DPRK AF. F-16 is already in service and can be provided at a much lower price than the other competitors.

It’s coming towards the end of it’s US service, to be sure, but other nations are still buying new, and I can’t see the DPRK being able to afford any new aircraft in worthwhile numbers for a very long time.

I only pulled the figures from Wikipedia, so I’m sure they aren’t going to be wholly accurate, but even if they are only approximate figures that’s still a huge difference in price.

Given that, according to wiki the P-1 is about $80 million () cheaper than a P-8, I’d say it would certainly be better for the UK.

Politically I don’t think it’s likely either, but would the F-15SE or F-35 be able to come anywhere close to the timeline the ROKAF have set?

My friend’s father is a former F-4 pilot in the Luftwaffe, had an interesting chat with him about their baltic deployments in the last few years.

It’s possible they were escorting a Russian AF patrol and handing over from one NATO member to another, but given it was over Scotland I don’t know why the Germans would by flying there unless it was in transit or as part of an exercise.

Are there any German Phantoms based in the US that are coming home atm?

Lawyers and politics just destroy acquisition programs.

It’s certainly not specific to the U.S. but right now we are leading the way in this area….

Oh, I don’t know about that. We had at least one Nimrod MRA.4 finished and several others almost finished when the govt decided to have them cut up for scrap.

It worked well enough for americans to pitch 5 patton tanks vs 1 tiger,
only 1 patton tank was expected to survive the encounter, but they could afford it while germans couldn’t.

I think you mean 5 Shermans against 1 Tiger. The M47 Patton wasn’t even in service in WW2.

Think a SHornet with 5 ext tanks is pretty close to what a KA-3B could do back in the days. Plus it is not only a loitering tanker, but also an escort tanker, and it’s modular (well, takes some time …) and can still perform all other SHornet roles.

The F-18 could probably fill the niche, but if the RN only operates the F-35C in the future, what could their options be?

Would it be practical for an F-35 to be a buddy tanker? Wouldn’t that be like using a Rolls Royce as a minicab? 😀

Difficult is by no means the same as impossible.

That said, the US is no stranger to staging attacks against their forces to manufacture a causus belli.

I still think its the Élysée. 😉

I guess invading France has never been easier, just a few hundred tickets on the Eurostar and we can be dining in Paris by this evening! I wonder if the Germans can be convinced to join us? ;):D

True , special mention to AtoG :

    Cheers .

Even if the graphic is true it’s not hugely relevant, most a2g missions will involve the use of sensors, targeting pods, smart weapons, and other things that have nothing to do with the view from the cockpit.

Ok, so what does this mean for the regional balance in airpower between China and India? Are we likely to see some form of response from China over the next few years or is it a negligible impact on the regional balance?

I think the more pertinent question is what this will do to the relationship between India and Pakistan.

The PAF will have to work hard and get new hardware if they want to keep up with India. That said, so long as Pakistan remains and ally of China they should be alright.
