………….I believe Brooklands Museum has initiated plans to get all the aircraft on the Vickers Aircraft Park under a cover and, if successful, to include the Vimy……..

I saw initial plans for this building a few years ago (pre-Vimy and Concorde) and, I think, was to hold all the Vickers post-war types – Viking, Varsity, Viscount, Vanguard and VC10. Add the Vimy and Concorde (plus the Wellington?) and what a line up that would be.

Regrettably I can’t access either – I’m not (nor do I want to be) a facebook member.

Is it conceivable, as both airmen were ‘missing’ they were washed up/brought ashore in different counties??

    Just a thought.

TO are you going to the next BAPC meeting at East Midlands – and, if so, will you have any with you?

I saw, and will never forget, Charles Masefield win the King’s Cup in his P-51 at Tollerton in 1967(?) and not just because it was the first Mustang I had seen ‘in the flesh’.

The King’s Cup always seemed, to me, more of a fight against the handicappers than a race. Whatever, all the ones I watched were thrilling – but none more so than this.

IIRC all the other entrants were on their final lap when the P-51 was waved off. Masefield just seemed to put the aircraft in a bank and decimated the rest of the field. Fantastic it was.

It was there yesterday, in fact it has been outside all week and it looked (from afar) as if things were being done to it.

If I can find anything out next week i will post again – unless anyone with more inside knowledge posts in the meantime.

Was there a proceedure on the likes of the Whirlwind or it’s Sikorsky forbear?

This set has certainly set the memory cells racing about. Old Warden, after my first visit in 1964, became my second home – travelling down (with camping gear) from Coventry on my little BSA Bantam. The start of a life-long interest in historic aircraft. 🙂

Thanks again for posting all these marvellous images.

…… They had a nice shot taken from the bomb aimers position as the Lancaster flew over the palace……….

That was to give our republicans (anti-monarchists) a cheap thrill :diablo:

As a matter of interest does anyone know where the name/word “Belfair” comes from, or is it made up?

TO/TT, perhaps a method of insulation might be the spray-on type. It adheres to the inside skin thus excluding the air in which corrosion would form?

Oh, and the new extension looks splendid. 🙂

If I’m ‘in the loop’ I don’t mind but, as far as this thread is concerned, I’m not and I’m now p*ssed off 😡

I’m tickled pink. I don’t care how long she is stored for as long as she is there to be renovated one day in the future.

What a treat to see this magnificent restoration.

I hope I can see and hear it before too long.
