Don’t remember that Prop Boss colour before- was it like that b4?
Gannets still hideous, in MY opinion, anyway 🙂
But, Pagen, you’ve turned a ‘light hearted’ thread into a row!- and i would disagree about the A-1- very similar roles to the gannet- and more versatile
This post in particular, and most of the others in general, just shows a complete lack of understanding of political and commercial pressures on the UK manufacturers / forces of the day.
The aircraft themselves were not turkeys and were either pioneering or heavily used by the services.
Tell me Oxcart, how would you aerodynamicaly improve the Gannet while still encompassing coupled turboprops, large weapons bay and radar instalation?I’m struggling to think of any aircraft to put in 101 as I like em all, but through working around them, Grob Tutors would definatly go in!
It is my PERSONAL opinion (as stated in the O P)- And i admit that not ALL of them were Turkeys, but a sufficient number of them were for there to be no more airliners built entirely in Britain- and as for political pressurers, surely the job of a manufacturer is to gain enough orders before an aircraft is built to warrant production-this means talking to as many prospective customers as possible (and not just the mother country)- and as for the Gannet, the Skyraider is much better looking and did a similar job!
Bundersarchiv?
How many can aircraft can you fit in one room???- here’s a few!- EE Lightning, Lincoln (There was no excuse for those aerodynamics, at that point in time, surely??) Gannet (ditto) Trident, Brittania Herald, ETC-(they should’ve at least tried to see if they were going to sell! BEFORE they commited themselves) Fairey Battle (should’ve been cancelled as soon as they knew about the ‘109!) and de Havilland Comet airliner (for obvious reasons!)
You’re right about the new owner mark, and i HOPE it stays for THAT show!
I just read somewhere it’ll be going to America! -GRRRRRRR!
WOW!-things are really moving along there!- wonder if she’ll be ready for the end of the season?
HOW the HELL did they get a Mosquito pilot to deliberately crash one for a film??-some people will do ANYTHING for money i suppose
Does anyone remember that orange coloured ex target-towing Sea/Fury brought over from Germany for the OFMC- don’t know what happended to it, though
Not today he wasn’t, looked very much like a P51 to me.
ALSO drives a blue spitfire, then!
Nope, this one ‘drives’ a blue Spitfire- the lucky so-and so!!:)
Had an idea it was too good to be true!!!
It’s quite possible (given the right circumstances). All that’s needed is for the Canberra to be stooging around at cruising altitude over an SR-71 taking off or landing. I assume we’re all reasonably intelligent people on here in which case I’m surprised no one else thought of it.
The Myth concerned the Blackbird on a mission at altitude over Tripoli, anyway- NURR!!!
