Corsair at the Phoenix air races in the mid ’90’s ?
The pilot was going to dead stick it in till it caught fire.
Kevin Eldridge, it was!-Shocking videos of it on Youtube
Yeah, I know what you mean!-If it was too sensitive in pitch it would explain why his version is shorter, though
…Or Old Warden!
At the end of this report it says the MB5 went to Wattisham 1948/9 then Bircham Newton 1963 before being burnt.

I fear I may be the cause of some historical inaccuracy. I wrote to Flypast after an article about the MB-5 having seen a letter in a very old issue of ‘Air Pictoral’ to the effect that the MB-5 went to Bircham Newton. I later found another letter from a few months later correcting that statement, saying that it never went there but I never wrote to flypast again to correct it. Apologies, it was just that I was just given a big pile of them from the 50’s and 60’s in no particular order. P.S. I read somewhere that Mr Marlin’s (near) copy is of different dimensions to make it handle better
Tests against a dam in Canada?
Better hope the beavers don’t have much flak. 😀
No, they’re armed WITH the teeth, not TO the teeth!!
Don’t suppose you could move it? I only live 10 minutes away, but there’ll be the Fury at Duxford that day!-thought not!!
And I would respectfully suggest that an incorrrect case on an aircraft designation (that I suspect an awful lot of forumites would know about, but not want to SHOW OFF about knowing) matters not one jot
Er… how does all this showing off help Fleet???
According to ‘Aeroplane’ at the time of publishing (mid April) it was due to be taken to a secret location for assembly and flight test at the beginning of May-can’t wait to see it!
There was an article about Kermit Weeks’ Tempest V in ‘Aeroplane’ a couple of months ago- it won’t be flying for a while, is the gist of it!
Very sad news, hope he makes a full recovery
The “stored” Rolls Royce Spitfire XIV RM689 has already been transferred to their Derby plant, according to ‘Aicraft’ magazine
That’s lovely!-thanks for posting!-Don’t know why it’s in 78th FG markings though! (Don’t worry, I’m joking!!)
Thanks fior the tip – are Spits and Gannets monsters..? Funny title.
Don’t know about the Spit, but the Gannet was flown out in an AN-124!!- quite a monster of an aircraft!
True enough, Y11! -Just had another thought!-Didn’t George Ellis used to fly RR299? -sure he could advise if needed
