there was talk of some of the Solomons recoveries of a few years ago being a lot of pete material(possibly enough to restore two airframes) but nothing seems to have been heard about them(or any of the other recoveries)since,if the rumors are true they are somwhere in australia.
damn it it was probably my only chance of seeing a live mossie 🙁
unless the other one in new Zealand does make it over to oz as planed.
signed up(through facebook)and approved :D.(as Paul Sabin)
site looks good so far
if i recall it was rumored that the original airframe survived (unfortunately incorrect though) during the 60’s and martin baker were trying to find it to restore as a part of the emerging airshow scene of the late 60’s .
john marlin should be applauded for bringing a lost fighter back to life ,but she doesn’t look quiet right.
damn this is a good year to go to legends 😎
is the new owner thinking of a colour scheme change for bbd? as she really did look nice in her original raaf scheme!! she is a cac mustang after all 😎
Word of warning, when I made the reservation I was quoted what I’d consider to be a fair fee for the new hotel, for a three night stay. I’ve since popped in to take a look at the place, checked the reservation and prices and found that what I’ll actually be paying is almost double what I was quoted! Eye watering figures. Not much they can do as it’s my word vs. theirs… It was also £1.50 for a can of coke from the lobby vending machine if I remember correctly, which seems a bit mad.
On the plus side, the hotel looks fantastic. Nice downstairs bar with a strong aviation theme. Quite terrific all round.
the price was a bit more than i was expecting, but the other places we’re staying at on our holiday have been pretty reasonable so i guess it’s not too bad to be paying a bit more for the convenience of this one.
the web site pics do look nice though ,and i hope the famous red lion bar will still be open for a post airshow debrief 😎
Hi
I would suggest instead a run of 1:24 models as a fund builder.
cheers
Jerry

…They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them…
i couldnt have said it better paul
i remember this being written in Australian aviation as well the airworthy one was said to be Mao’s personal transport and could be made airworthy very quickly.
i thought it seemed a bit odd at the time (but with Guido you never know)
