Pratt & Whitney Dependable engines.
Bristol Centaurus Undependable engines.
Most US and two of the European seafuries have WRIGHT R3350…….and ask the sanders about the reliability of them…..now one of thiers has a reliable PW R2800 but thier t20 has a centaurus and seems to be fine.
the merlin one has been dealt with on and off for quiet awhile, and whilst there is a paper trail from westlands saying it was possible,no one seems to believe it was(according to many people petter wanted the merlin to begin with)
the Packard built motors seems very odd, makes me wonder if there is confusion between the MK11 peregrine powered one or the proposed Allison powered one? as pt boats used a Packard built development of the liberty V12.
Peter teichman, what a wonderful thing to do.
she lived in my parents garage back in the late 60’s,glad to see her being bought back to life.
i only met him once at legends 2011,and only talked for a short while but found him a very genuine man with a love for the preservation movement,i had corresponded with him a couple of weeks ago about getting vol11 of the book(and it’s now in my possession) and again came across as a true gentleman.
RIP and blues skies Graham
are you going to be at legends?…id love to by a pen made from a broken prop.
nice to see the former Guido Zuccolli seafury still active(even still has it’s old au registration under the tailplane

We’ve been knocking some idea’s about Whirlwind models since the begining of the project, one of the favorites using the CAD Whirlwind would be to make say in 1/32 or even 1/25 scale a complete Whirlwind from the ground up, so with Kit 1 you’d start with the main internal structure, then Kit 2 would be according to the builders choice the ancillery units (Engine’s, undercarridge, cockpit etc… ) Kit 3 would be the exterior panels…
Then there’s desk-top models, using 3d printing a 1/72 scale Whirlwind would have all the detail that a full size replica would have, right down to a smallest screw, these could be either in wood or metal…
Then at last there’s a comic Whirlwind, not a kit, comes complete with working undercarridge, propeller’s and wheels, one for the kids, which will probably be the first to be released…

i’ll have of of the cartoon ones and a desktop model!!!!
Matt.if the mod had have listened she would have been a world beater!!!!!!
she lived in my garage for a year or two when i was a kid(1968/1969)
it only flew twice…there were some minor issues with it…prop balance was one…the next couple of flights were going to be done with a 4 bladed one till the problems with the 6 bladed one were worked out..but as much as 45 minutes flying can tell she showed real promise…was never flown post war.
Oh come on..!
Somebody else must rate the Beau?
Moggy
i certainly do…..and with the raaf/dap mod of 4×50’s in place of the 6×303…she hit like a battleship…plus bloody good speed at altitude dot…….why it was never used against trains etc in Europe is beyond me.
so forward facing armament…4x20mm cannons…4x50cal machine guns(British built 6x 303)…plus rockets and bombs!!…a winner in my head 😎
Dave R…glad to hear it’s still going along.
thank you to all the contributors to this thread,it’s daily reading for me…i hope to catch up with some of you at legends this year!!!
