A slight digress, it was not uncommon for pilots to wear glasses, I know of one who not only wore glasses but contact lenses as well. It was known that he would go out wearing the contact lenses and come back wearing glasses.

In a letter about this pilot Peter Brothers told me that he had a disconcerting habit of tapping his contact lens with the tip of a pencil, while trying to think.

This is getting to be as annoying as the final word thread on GD.

Interesting that the Hurricane performed better than the standard version, the same couldn’t be said about the Spitfire that underwent a similar conversion but with a DB 605A-1 in 1943. The only area that it was found to be superior was in rate of climb and operational ceiling, but this was attributed to the fact that it didn’t have it’s armament installed.

    Hi Janie

The best person to speak to would be Sarah Pepper facesfromtheblue@tesco.net , she should be able to give you the low down. As far as I am aware the event is by invitation only. I’m just honoured that someone as lowly as me would be invited to join such an esteemed crowd.

I found this image on a Fleet Air Arm website. It seems to show the collection in his ‘shed’.

I do not know were this 2005 came from.

My understanding, from Mrs Mark12, is that they are in secure storage and that work may start on one of them in the relatively near future.

I guess we must just wait and listen out.

With apologies to an unknown photographer.

    Mark

It’s amazing the amount of detail that they put into modern plastic model kits 🙂

I think Mk12’s wife knows the chap that owns them. Either that or she knew Peter Arnold, can’t remember which.

I do recall Mark 12 mentioning that he was related to Peter’s wifes best friend, what ever that could mean 😉

Surely he could use some influence and ask the right questions.

A slight bump, as a tribute to the Guys who would not return 61 years ago today.
