Ah it is quite comforting to find this thread re-appear on page 1 again, like an old friend . . .it’s more familiar than my favourite pair of socks! π
Yeah, and probably just as smelly π
Thanks Mk12, now let the fun begin, tin helmet anyone ? π
didn’t Glenn Miller die of friendly fire? :p
A friend of mine was on one of the squadrons that may have caused his death, click here for more.
As I have said else where on the interweb, it would be nice if anyone who takes up this offer, put something, or, all of the usual entrance fee into the Poppy Appeal collection tins.
How far forward were Allied troops at this point as Bergen-op-Zoom wasn’t liberated until 27 October 1944 by the tanks of the South Alberta Regiment, supported by two companies of the Brigade’s Lincoln and Welland Regiment, after they overcomed opposition from the Germany 6th Parachute Regiment.
From else where on the interweb:-
Gibson returned to operational duties in 1944, after pestering Bomber Command, and was killed on a bombing raid on Rheydt operating as the Master Bomber, when his de Havilland Mosquito crashed near Bergen-op-Zoom, the Netherlands, on 19 September 1944. It was assumed for many years that he had been shot down, but following the discovery of the wreckage of his plane, it was found that a fault with the fuel tank selector had meant that the aircraft had simply run out of fuel.
I’d never put my camera in the hold,i’d want it back in one piece! π
Neither do I, unfortunately as a result of recent alleged terrorist actions, things have changed a little and they (airlines) now scrutinise every piece of hand luggage and if like my camera bag it’s over a certain size then they insist on it going in the hold.
Mind you, I tend to travel by boat to the UK, so donβt have this problem often.
That last one is both poignant and disturbing
Have been tempted to do rent a camera next year but would need guidance in that area.
Well you know if you do, there are plenty of accomplished photographers on here and PT that will be more than willing to point you in the right direction.
If you talk to them nicely, them may even lend you one of theirs π
Nice shots Stuart, you certainly are able to work that point and shoot and put many DSLR users to shame. Think what you could do with a proper camera.
This may help:-
ROTFL π
Moggy
Moggy how dare you make defamatory remarks about the accuracy of this statement.
I have photographic evidence of the hound in question at the hotel and an account of him being seen regularly propping up the bar along side W/Co Bader.

Today, the implied racism of the term is so strong that the use of nigger in most situations is a social taboo in English-speaking countries.
Many American magazines and newspapers will not even print the word in full, instead using n*gg*r, n**ger, nββ, or simply “the N-word.” A Washington Post article on Strom Thurmond’s 1948 candidacy for President of the United States went so far as to replace it with the periphrasis “the less-refined word for black people.”
The word was also completely excised from the Microsoft Encarta dictionary, despite its common usage. The shock effect of the word can also be used to deliberately cause offense. Several activists, such as Dick Gregory, have said the use of “N-word” instead of “Nigger” throughout modern English vernacular robs younger generations of the full history of black people in America. For example, using “the N-word” in place of “Nazi”, which was also a pejorative term, would rob younger generations of the full gravity of the Holocaust.
So there you have it, the word should be replaced by either :-
n*gg*r, n**ger, nββ, the N-word or or simply “the less-refined word for black people.”
Gibson, “send out the less-refined code word for black people for breaching the dam” π
Surely if the word N!gger is acceptable to Samuel L Jackson then it should be to Peter !!!!
Is it from a Spitfire ??????
Like Frank I’ve never had any problems, however my gear has always gone through as hand luggage and not in the hold. I believe that the machines used to scan hold luggage are of a higher rating.
It maybe a good idea to keep the cards with you and put through as hand luggage rather than taking the risk.
