No you can’t. However much you ‘stretch the rules’, B-52s, Canberras and C-130s are not ‘WW2 era aircraft’ in any way, shape or form.
The Canberra was on the drawing board at the end of ww2…:D
The Canberra 🙂 still in service, albeit in highly modified form, with NASA.
^^ Sometimes it’s just a case of make do with what you’ve got. 🙂

I think that comment comes under the heading of ‘No sh*t Sherlock’
In fact I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a 20mm cannon wasn’t more effective than a 50cal for similar reasons.
Moggy
As I’ve always understood it, the 20mm cannon was much more effective than the. 50. The draw back being the reduced rate of fire and ammo capacity.
And our 20mm cannons were supposed to have been a more effective ‘air to air’ weapon than the 30mm cannons in the Me 262, which was hindered by a slow rate of fire. One can only imagine the damage a quick burst of 4x 30mm cannons would have on a lumbering heavy bomber.
The phrase ‘there’s no such thing as bad publicity’ belongs to UKIP. No matter the blunders, errors and unpopular sound bytes, they’re going from strength to strength. They’re now hovering around the late teens in the polls, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they achieve over 20% in the election.
No matter what people think of them, there’s no denying that they’ve given the legacy parties a most welcome boot up the rear. 🙂
Defecation, urination and intercourse are all perfectly natural functions, but you can be fined for those in public. No one is denying that breast feeding is perfectly natural, but that doesn’t mean that everyone wants to see it.
Sadly, people seem less inclined to show consideration for those around them these days, and it is sorely missed.
It has no relevance to the RAF Museum,
It has some relevance. 🙂
As was mentioned before, a Sunderland / Sandringham would be amazing. Large flying boats have an important part in our aviation heritage, and yet very few survive. As Airworthy one would be a fitting tribute to the many amazing flying boats we produced, and also the the crews of Sunderlands who had to endure some of the worst flying conditions of the war.
I have as little time as you for our current government and opposition but I equally do not have much time for Farage either. He tells a good story over a good pint but Prime Minister? On no!!
Out of the current lot, who is PM material? I would say that Cameron is probably the best of a rotten bunch, followed by Farage. Clegg is somewhere on the horizon. I won’t even mention the Labour leaders name, as Abu Hamza would make a better PM than him. 😀
Great pictures Duxman 😎 That first one in post #77 is incredible!
Now let’s think… Which party, if elected, will give us the referendum?
Seeing as it’s their only policy, that would be UKIP. 😀
ALL of the other main parties have previously promised referendums and not delivered. Why should we believe them now?
I REALLY hope UKIP win with a total landslide, just to show those in Westminster that their time of false promises, reckless spending (no pun intended) and ‘rubber stamping’ ever more devolution of powers to foreign governments is over.

Can’t wait to see some pictures 😎
Congratulations to all involved.
What would have been procured for air defence ?
F4 could have continued for longer with upgrades, certainly plenty of airframes around. Failing that F15, F16, Mirage etc.
Yes.
