Actually if I were in authority to make the decision to open up UK airspace to all departing flights to the south and southeast many air passengers would thank me when their flights landed safely at their destinations!

And, what about that one flight that didn’t make it? Would their families thank you, or those on the ground that were needlessly killed.

No, the right decision was made.

You can add to your list that the seat tracks do not extend that far back to allow an extra row of seats. You are then talking quite a modification to splice in an additional section, the design/fitment of new floor beams – which also means disconnecting a number of flight control wires.

It would be expensive to design, overcome and certify these changes, making it completely unfeasible.

All this is is hot air from a very good businessman.

Fly a bit smoother and you might;)

A friend of mine travelled a lot when he was a kid. Consiquently when the engines start, he falls asleep. Now he’s an aircraft engineer and this is a REAL problem during engine runs! I was in the flight deck of a 747 once, with all four running. Every time we paused to take the figures he’d drop off!

I fell asleep during a ground run, but I was in the back in a proper lie-flat seat. 😮

A little seen side-effect of all the extra – oversized – hand luggage is the damage to the aircraft interior. A significant amount of time is spent repair overhead bins and storage lockers. I am not sure the beancounters have clocked onto that aspect yet.

Have they said what “Portion” of the engine cowling it was yet?
It is a reasonably regular occurance. We some times get the airfield ops guys coming into our office with a lump of composite saying “Any idea what this is?” I make sure that it hasn’t got my airlines name on it and then deny all knowlage of it!

Most likely the fan cowl, it has always been a poor design.

    Only there’s a Ryanair B737 in there, too! 🙂

Is there? The only thing I can see looking like a Ryanair B737, is a North American B757? You must have better eyesight that me.

AA or VS would be better for the economay seating arrangement of 2-5-2 and 2-4-2 respectively., if you can get a window seat. BA 744 economy is packed in with a 3-4-3 layout.

    VS would be my bet.

I’m guessing that they have a really good idea on efficiency at this point. I’d love to know if actual performance is what they predicted.

Perhaps so, now that they have announced that the 789 will feature the same wing as the 788 without modification.
