either today, tomorrow or friday.
I’m a bit out of date regarding news… That said, I do have a new car now!!!! which means I can get to the museum WITH TOOLS!!!
The Bloodhound looks great now (I popped in today to take photos of the bomb rack in 319), and poor Roy was busting a gut on the Lightning attempting to remove the stub of old fin…. I think he must live in that hangar…
possibly ‘Luxor’ goggles – privately bought in preference to the issue set (faceted perspex).
ref p. 141 ‘Battle of Britain’ by Richard Townshend Bickers (salamander Books ltd 1990)
run a google image search for ‘luxor goggles’ and it should be a picture of the offending item. If not, one issue set was fairly similar but un tinted and more shaped around the bridge
anyone got a rough price? Just out of curiosity, you understand…
kind of ‘original freshly painted mid life new old……..’ or commonaly known as ‘ better than what she is now’
603 is not dead yet. 558’s white nose will be refitted to 603 in due course allegedly. There is a limit of ‘within 12 months’ for 603’s demise (thats from the good doctor himself!). She will not die in vain though.
Flying heros portrayed by flying legends….. I had no idea that the (unseen) pilot list would have so many late names…..:(
What was the reason behind the ‘special appreciation to Nick Grace’?

Daft question – is that Ray Hanna doing a spot of acting?
top effort! Looks like more work gets done when I’m not there!…. I think I’ll stick to painting roundels….
Well done to all concerned with this! Another victory for the ‘small museums’ (non national collections) and individuals pulling together for the benefit of all. If we could all do this all the time…..
ah well… thats at least 7 of us…
See you in the morning! (I’ll be the one stood dribbling over the Vulcan)
must have just been pleasure flying. just something which was mentioned…
That said, has BBMF considered it?
Very good programme. One point it was mentioned many times that you couldnt fly a spitfire with an instructor because of course they are all single seaters. Why do the BBMF not utilise the one or two two seat spitfires in this country for training purposes?
Though this is not possible for the Hurricane would it not be safer for the Spit?
I am sure someone has explained the various [probably finacial] reasons before!!Cheers
I don’t think its official, but one or two of the spit pilots have flown with Paul Day at East Kirby…..
I saw my tool box, but not me…. hooray!
ahh… that would explain why 319 has a fuel tank, a big gap with a single bomb point, and finally a single 1000lb carrier…….
or maybe not.
Looks an awful lot like a corner from a GM transmission pan gasket.
Size 30? Allow me to quote the immortal Stuart MacKenzie from “So I Married An Axe Murderer”… “That’s a virtual planetoid! She’s got her own weather system!” 😮 😮 😮
go cry yourself to sleep on your gargantuan pillow…..
bum
