Asking me.Write i am a leeds lad so of course this is going to biased. Leeds Uni is the one you should really have a go at. I mean lets starts with going back to america for a week/10 days. You will have a great train link to manchester airport or simply use the local airport to fly down to heathrow to go onto onward connections.
Jobs they will be easy to find beacuse there are new bulidings popping up here and there with cafes and Resturants and Shops
As for the repuation well it is Only Harehills/Beeston/Chapletwon what has got us a reputaion so anyway you wont be going near them.
Tranpsort around the city is nearlly every 1-2 minutes into leeds.
