How come this incident is not being reported on any other news channel, both BBC and Sky News…nothing at all about it, seems strange for what is quite clearly a serious breach of security and threat to aviation?
Just wait to see the Daily Mail tomorrow…am sure they’ll have a report on it with a witness from inside the terminal stating “He had a machine gun, I thought he was going to shoot me, I could have died!”…:D:diablo:
LHR – An A300 Airbus in ‘prototype’ Air France livery crosses the hedge of 28L. The peritrack at Hatton Cross had spectators stopping on the side of the road to watch which is why there are cars parked. At this time there was no bus/underground station 1979.
Hi VeeOne,
Very interesting picture here, this is in fact the very road that I drive up/down each and every day when I come and go to work…
Just one observation though, you say in your title above that there was no bus/underground station back in 1979, but in the background of the photo, there is what clearly looks to be like the Hatton Cross bus/tube station building…(look closely enough and you can see the bus/underground symbol, just above the blue/grey car parked on the side of the road!)?
According to Wikipedia, Hatton Cross station opened in 1975 as a terminus, and became a through station in 1977 because that is when Heathrow Central (what is now Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3) opened.;)
Primarily a flight for the oil industry I would expect, so it will more than likely do quite well.:)
What aircraft is being operated on the route?
I think that BA use a B747 on their LHR-CAI route (don’t they?)…not sure if that counts as long-haul though, to me its a short-haul route?
Blimey, 64 people have viewed this thread and no replies as yet…I half expected a raft of replies saying that these people were being greedy/selfish and should just be greatful that they have a job and if they are unhappy they should just simply leave and let others who are able/willing to do the job to take their place…or has the result at BA perhaps changed people’s minds/opinions a bit?
Don’t be silly Cking…the cabin crew do it, before having to clean the plane and do their security checks and onload the next hoard of cattle (sorry, customers!:D)…and all within 25mins!
Couldn’t agree more. They should sack troublemakers next time and when the remove optional perks, don’t re-instate them before the strikers get back to work.
I don’t think we do actually do agree here Bmused…or perhaps I didn’t get my point across correctly.
I think the key thing to take from today’s events is in fact that both sides have seen a change…in terms of the CEO at BA and the leadership of the Union.
It is/was clear that WW’s brash, combative “we will not budge an inch” approach to the situation meant that he and the Unions were never going to see eye-to-eye, and had he of still been in charge at BA today, I very much doubt that we would have had the result that we currently have.
The change in leadership on both sides has managed to bring about a new and fresh chance to end this bitter dispute…and it is blatentantly clear to me and has always been so that if you actually chose to negotitate amicabily and sensibly, a result can be agreed upon that is benefital to all.
Again, I re-emphasise the points I raise in my previous arguments…you cannot simply sack somone for taking part in a legally binding strike…and in answer to your last point about not giving the perks back to the strikers until they returned to work, well they returned to work as soon as the strike ended last year, so had they [BA] re-instated travel perks last year, maybe, just maybe this whole saga could have been sorted and ended by then?
However I agree that Jet bridges are not strictly necessary especially in the south of Spain.
It does rain in Spain you know, their not immune from the occasional downpour now and then…?!:D
Besides, you get what you pay for…if you choose to travel on a lo-co, you choose to get off via steps, and thus you choose to run the risk of getting soaked if/when it is raining.
All I will say on this matter is that I am glad it is finally over, and am happy that both sides have finally seen sense and been mature enough to get around a table, work out their differences and agree on a package that benefits everyone.
That said though, I still maintain that there needs to be a radical re-think/change in the corporate culture at BA, and this needs to happen at the top!
A kick in the teeth for every one else who have had to take pay-freezes, and cuts just to keep their job.
I am due to vote soon on whether or not to accept a 4% pay-rise this year.
I am still not 100% decided which way to go as I need to hear what is said at the meeting next week, but at this stage I think I will more than likely choose to accept that whilst 4% isnt a great offer, its certainly better than nothing at all…
In an “ideal world”, if you take the high rate of inflation and increasing costs into consideration, a 4% pay-rise does in fact mean that I am loosing out, but again I have more or less chosen to accept that this is not an “ideal world”, and there are people out there who are in a much worse position than me so I should consider myself to be very fortunate.
That said though, at the end of the day the company I work for is still due to make a profit (albeit a very small one!), so why should I not reap the benefits if my hard work has helped contribute to this?!
There was a program on BBC4 ages ago about Suckling Airways…I think it was called “40 years on” or something similar and basically went right back to the start and then showed how it had grown into what it was nowadays (prior to the take over by CityJet, mind you!).
Fantastic pics there Tartan, well done and thanks for sharing.:)
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again…that SATA Airlines livery is a thing of beauty.
Thanks for that Geo73.;)
This topic does in fact lead me onto some questions…
Are the rules/laws in anyway different to setting-up an airline on IoM, compared to anywhere else in the UK, or is the IoM still governed by the CAA in the respect of aviation?
Also, I wonder if the aircraft would carry the new M- registration, or whether or not they would still have G- registration markings…?
…and kill this startup within weeks.
Phow there, lets not start plotting its downfall before its even taken to the skies…we should be embracing the fact that new airlines are being started-up.
All I think that we are doing is just debating their choice of aircraft and destinations/hubs/routes.
Lets not give its competition any ideas…;)
I think its safe to say that even if they are “hubs”, they would more than likely look to connect these places up with I.O.M, seeing as that is/will be their home base.
