And now for some from a rather snowy London City earlier today…

And some more…

Whilst waiting for the train into London earlier, I took these…

Here’s some more…

Thanks for the links GA, very useful indeed.:)
Sorry to hear you did not have a productive day yesterday.
Well this is the latest from BAA’s website:
02 February 2009
Due to the current adverse weather conditions all BAA airports in the South East are experiencing significant delays and cancellations and passengers are advised to contact their airlines before leaving for the airport.
At a glance:
Heathrow: Up until 8:15am, Heathrow had been operating with one runway but now both runways are closed (although we are hoping to reopen the Southern Runway again soon) – there are significant delays and over 250 cancellations
Gatwick: Currently open but significant delays and cancellations
Stansted: Runway was initially closed but opened at 7am – significant delays and cancellations
Southampton: closed – significant delays but hoping to open the runway mid-morning
With bus and rail services affected and difficult road conditions across the country, please take extra care and time if you do intend travelling to the airport.
Good luck to anyone wanting to fly for the next few days…just remember though, any delays and/or cancellations will be out of the airlines control due to the weather conditions, so don’t expect much (if any) compensation, but more importantly, please do not take your anger/stress out on the staff who have managed to get into work; although they are there to help, they will be limited as to what help they can offer. No need for raised tempers, voices or indeed fists!
IMO, the clutter of the home page degrades the quality of the stuff inside the site.
Totally agree, the first thing that I was drawn to was the large advert just under the main hompage titles…and its not even aviation related, so my interest was almost lost straight away!:(
…All of this information is readily accessible, it just takes a while for it all to sink in but once it’s there it will help you immensely.
This might sound daft Paul, but where is this information readily accessible, as I cant seem to find it?
Like Rob, I have read the manual to my camera several times already, but all it tells you is what to do with your camera when using the different settings, it does not give you the knowledge of how to create so-called “technically correct” images, that may or may not be accepted by JP or A.net?
Also, I don’t feel that you have really answered my main question…what process do you normally go through?
Now you’ve had your camera for a few weeks, feel free to drop me a message on MSN. I should be around for the first half of the week. 🙂
Thanks, but its probably best if you initiate first contact through MSN, as I always seem to catch you at a bad/busy time…lol.:(
Although they’re a little grainy they’re still enjoyable
Thanks for that Steve, yeah I know quality is not ‘outstanding’…and the location they were shot at is not ideal as I was shooting into the sun!
At the end of the day, I am not too concerned about quality at the moment as I am still learning and improving my skills, but there’s not much point in taking loads of photos and then not share them with others!:)
I love the head on “game on” shots at T5 didnt notice them before
Plus the BMI and Moon shot is awesome
Keep up the good work Jon
Rob
🙂
Thanks Rob, both shots you mentioned where taken at random, so I was quite pleased with the way they turned out, along with the last EK A380 one with the sun in the background.
Now that I have a 450D, hopefully the quality should improve somewhat.
Will post some more up when I get a chance!
The first two shots and the one of G-EZAM are good, but the rest of them could have been taken with your old Fuji and I wouldn’t have known any different…There’s no short path to it unfortunately but believe me, every hour you spend learning will give you infinite enjoyment
As critical as Paul is being here Rob, I do agree with what he says. He’s just being cruel to be kind in a way…so try not to take it too negatively.
I must say that I have recently switched from a Fuji S5700 to a Canon EOS 450D, and although I have seen an improvement in terms of the quality of the images, primarily due to the increase in no. of pixels, I am still trying to get use to using the new equipment; hence why I have decided not to post any pics up on here just yet as I am still developing my knowledge and skills.
Good on you for braving the freezing conditions though, hope you wrapped up well!;)
If you’re happy doing what you do then by all means continue as you are, but if you really do want to improve then you have to learn more about how your camera works.
Paul, I know you are probably really busy with other things at the moment, but if/when you get some spare time, could you please perhaps try to explain to other forum members (i.e. me!) some of the basic processes that you would normally go through in order to be able to take decent photos and also the level of quality that is required to get photos accepted on websites such as Airliners.net as I have heard that the people who approve the pictures on sites like these can be quite picky when it comes to accepting images.
Any advice/info would be much appreciated.:)
…I for one aren’t looking forward to having to sort it out tomorrow at work!
Well just to rub salt into the wounds, I’ve just finish my last set of 4 shifts on so now I got two days off…:D:diablo:
Having said that, I’m not looking forward to going back to work on Wednesday because if things do get any worse (and they are forecast too!) then there will be a rather large back-log of passengers stuck in various places which means that the flights in the next few days will no doubt fill up quite quickly; which is not a bad thing from the airlines perspective as they need the revenue; the loads so far this year on flights to the USA have seen a noticeable drop, in part due to the economic downturn.
Yes this does look cluttered, but it’s still miles better than the very boring billboard star livery or the cluttered star member logo livery.
I disgree Bmused55, I think both Star liveries are way better than this…but I suppose that is just a matter of opinion and personal taste.:D
If anything, I think it would look slightly better perhaps if they had taken the British Airways logo and put it towards the back of the aircraft, like they have done on the OpenSkies livery: http://www.airliners.net/photo/OpenSkies-(British-Airways)/Boeing-757-236/1456721&tbl=photo_info&photo_nr=12&sok=WHERE__%28airline_%3D_%27OpenSkies_%28British_Airways%29%27%29_&sort=_order_by_photo_id_DESC_&prev_id=1457730&next_id=1454625
Interestingly one of Emirates’s A380’s has been stuck over here in London due to engine trouble. An Atlas 747F was due to arrive early evening yesterday to deliver a new engine.
This news certainly pissed off a few spotters that I met at Myrtle Ave. yesterday when I told them that EK had replaced the usual service operated by the A380 with a 777!
Will post up some of my shots later in Images.
Immigration asked me that the other week…asked me where I had come from. I answered “Gate 54” :diablo: They didn’t seem to be impressed with that answer!
LMAO. Well done Andy, that’s a good one!:D
As for the point of the survey itself…its so that statisticians (yes, that is a word/job title before anyone asks!) can gather data to gauge how many people travel to/from the UK by air, what country they are coming from, how long they are staying in the UK for, and what the purpose of their trip is (business or leisure!). It is this probably this data that forms a small part of the evidence that is used to outline the need for the proposed expansion of the airport!
In the case of being a UK citizen, I agree with Andy as I do not see the point in asking them, however, the person doing the survey at the time would not know whether you are a UK citizen until he/she asks if you can spare a few minutes to answer the survey!
Wouldn’t mind £10 for every time he used the name Richard
The cheque for £120 is in the post for you deano….not!:D:p:diablo:
(he says Richard x12 times; 12 x £10 = £120, just for those that didnt quite work it out!)
