Amazing! I just cannot believe that everyone has survived – bravo!
Hats off to the pilots and crew; they all deserve medals!:)
An interesting point was just made on Sky News by an air accident investigator, he says and I can almost quote him word-for-word that “no amount of training will of prepared the flight deck crew for such an occurance.”
Could that honestly be true?
I find that statement rather hard to believe, and would suspect he’s exaggerating things somewhat, but am happy to be corrected otherwise?
At last, some really interesting threads are currently being discussed on this forum!:D
I would like to throw another couple of related questions into the mix, but first my apologises to Dandpatta for hijacking his original thread…I feel your question has been answered, and rather than starting another related thread I think its best to keep it altogether here, hope you don’t mind?
So, the questions…
How do airlines decide where to send their aircraft on a daily basis, as in what routes to serve each day and at what times?.
Obviously I already know that no airline has just one aircraft flying on one particular route every single day of the year (unless it is a very small airline that just operates one/two routes with just one aircraft – i.e Lyddair ;)).
So, for example: ABC Airlines flies from London to…Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast…
How does ABC Airlines manage to work out what is best in terms of efficiency for the airline from a business/revenue perspective, but also from a passenger perspective of offering a flight to a particular destination at the most convenient time to suit their customers needs?’
Also, what happens in the event of a delay/cancellation?
Obviously if it is the last flight of the day that is delayed/cancelled, then the scale of the problem is somewhat reduced, but what happens if the delay/cancellation occurs at the beginning, or throughout the day…
What steps would ABC Airlines go through when deciding if they should delay/cancel another flight and use that available aircraft to operate the original flight that would have been delayed/cancelled, or whether they should just keep the original flight delayed/cancelled and try to work out a different solution?
Apologises if my questions seems long-winded or do not make sense, but that is how I thought I should word them to help people understand?:o:confused:
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Strange how they have been arrested…for what, criminal damage?
I cant really understand this, because surely if someone caused damage to an aircraft, they would report it, wouldnt they?
Seems to be an alleged hit & run between a luggage truck and a BA A321 according to the Daily Mail
Well it must have been quite serious for the Daily Mail to report it…
Mr Ando said a police source had described the damage as a gash to the fuselage.
How did the DM describe a ‘gash’…a huge gaping hole, perhaps…:D:diablo::p
I would second that, I have a long way to go to get to the level of…any number of other posters on this forum come to think of it!
Tony 😀
Don’t put yourself down so much!
I am sure there are things that you can do to get even better photos, but I was merely expressing my opinion.
I’ll take it back, if you think I’m being overly-complimentary.
…hardly business class is it. Ooh a curtain, a paper and a breadbun :p
I agree. I seriously dont understand airlines that offer a business class on such short-haul routes, they should make them all economy and then they would be able to accommodate even more passengers and therefore make more money!?:)
On a related note, the Concorde at LHR that used to sit by a fence on the eastern perimeter (amongst the BA maint hangars) that has been there for as long as I’ve been spotting there, has recently dissapeared. Anyone who knows the airport know where it’s gone?
BA have moved the Concorde to the remote parking area behind their main maintenance hanger, so it is offically out of view of the public eye, which is a great shame in my opinon.
If it were me, I would have done what they have now done in MAN, build a seperate hanger to house the a/c, but I would also go one step further by opening her up the public and offer tours for a small fee…would certainly generate some interest and also an additional revenue stream for BA, but they’re not likely to listen to me, are they?:D:diablo:
Wow, that is a really quite interesting document, thanks for providing the link.:)
Any chance if they [BAA] also do one for the departures/take-off’s too, as it would save alot of time having to work it all out based on which runway is in use for landings?
And yes, before you say it, I know I might be taking the easy option here, but I just dont see the value in me wasting my time trying to work it out if something about it already exists!;):p…:o
Any help would be greatly appreciated?
Welcome to the forum Patsera1, glad to see you’ve received the usual warm welcome!:)
I think your question (if it was indeed a question; seemed to be worded rather strangely, or maybe I am just getting old?:p) has already been answered, but like someone else has said, your title of the thread is way off the mark…perhaps think more carefully about this, then you might not get such a harsh reception from other forum members.
I remember reading years ago there are a few tips that I think are the basics:
1) You have more chance if you are a member of their loyalty programme.
2) Ask them outright – don’t just hint at it. The worst they can say is no, they best they can say is yes.
3) You are more likely to be upgraded if you are travelling by yourself, as they are unlikely to upgrade a family etc.
4) If/when you ask, try catching the queue when it is at a minimum – they are unlikely to upgrade you when other passengers can hear/see what they are doing as they would get everyone doing it. Try and check-in by yourself.
5) Smile, be polite and friendly. A little charm sometimes goes a long way.
And another point I would add to this list is…
6) Make sure you are dressed appropriately for the class of service you want to travel in.
I’m not saying you should go dressed to impress in a suit, shirt & tie, but don’t go to other end of the extreme and rock up at the check-in desk in a t-shirt, jeans and trainers and then ask for an upgrade, as you wont stand a chance, even if your the highest earning mileage member and the airline is looking to upgrade passengers because Economy is oversold, you’ll be made to travel with the rest of us riff-raff down the back!
Blagging can be a wonderful thing. There are great stories around of people who have blagged all kinds of things, often at great expense.
Indeed symon, blagging can be a wonderful thing, but it takes a great deal of skill, and more importantly…luck!
A story that made me chuckle from a while back was of the guy who bought a fake beard, put it on just before he checked-in for his Virgin Atlantic flight and tried to pass himself off as a relative of SRB in order to gain an upgrade to Upper Class! Needless to say he was unsuccessful as his passport photo was not an accurate match…lol!
OMG! Those are probably some of the best pics I have seen posted here…they’re amazingly stunning!:)
Adore the Austrian Arrows F70 and the second EK A380 ones.
What time did the EK A380 depart, it is due to go at 13:45pm, but so far I have never seen it depart on-time, which is not a good thing for Emirates’s reputation.
Keep up with the spectacularly good work.
Has your cold/flu got worse since you’ve been out?
The word plagiarism comes to mind
Or just a very clever marketing gimmick…;)
Since last April i’ve racked up over 20,000 KLM points and I’m now at silver level.
I’ve just booked to go to Boston and then fly home from New York (NWA A330-300 to Boston, Air France 777-200 return), a steal for £350, couldn’t resist!
Anyway, any tips on blagging an upgrade? I’ve yet to go in Business Class! Would I be better off on the way out, or the way back? The NWA 330 I was on to Minneapolis a few months ago was great, brand new! Is it likely the one to Boston will be similarly new? What is the AF service like? Only flew with them once, a good few years ago…that was 330 aswell I believe, I remember good food!
Anyway, tips appreciated. If all else fails, will I have enough points to get an upgrade??
Forget it mate, most airlines have a standard upgrade policy which basically gives the highest mileage-earning pax preference to any complimentary upgrades first…to help keep them loyal. Also, airlines will not upgrade pax for free if there is still space in economy…will only ever happen if economy is oversold.
Either that or you could try fluttering your eyes at a pretty flight attendant…;)
Me, too. Inflight Entertainment was great, but seat pitch food etc….
I have to agree Lawstud. I flew with VS last year between LHR-LAX whilst on my trip to Hawaii. Both flights were on Airbus A340-600 type aircraft; outbound flight was in old config and I thought that was great, but inbound flight had new config, which I really didnt like.
As for airline TV ads (what a great thread idea!), how about a few of these:

(Perhaps Ryanair could learn a few more tips of how to rip-off pax from this ad!:D:diablo:)
And also how about two from Silverjet…
First up, quite a funny one: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ErWwNyzQS-A&feature=related
And now a more serious one (note the similarity to the old BA ad that has already been posted!):

That said, most of my photos come out blurry anyway, regardless of what I do with the camera! 😀
Paul
Could that be to do with how much you have to drink by any chance Paul?:p:diablo:
Why doesn’t Jet Airways look at Australia as a potential market?
