I think this is a very novel idea, although I think £5 is a bit steep…if they charged say £2-3 they would ‘fly’ off the trolley!
I wonder if Miss October would like to wash my car?!:D
Dont mean to dash your hopes, but I have been to BHX before and I didnt really enjoy it much. The only thing I do like about it is the gift shop!
In terms of traffic though, all there was a couple of Flybe Dash 8’s/ERJ’s, an Eastern Airways JS41 and the Emirates 777, thats about it. I got really bored, so I took a wander round the terminal and then went home!
Excellent shot. Certainly is a ‘beauty of a beast’!
…why hasn’t MOL had a plane painted to advertise a film?
Perhaps he could market his own film…Pirates Of The Airline Industry: The Curse Of Ryanair!:D
There are a few airline choices out there and as a US pilot I would ask that you don’t fly Go! They are a shady company run by a real @#$…
…I talked to someone who had ridden the jumpseat on Go! and watched as the crew didn’t run one checklist the whole flight. Don’t fly Go!.
Unfortunatley, ‘Go!’ was the one airline that I was most looking forward to flying on as they were featured in Airliner World some time ago and I found the article really interesting…and as soon as my parents said about going to Hawaii, the first thing I said to them was…”At least I will be able to fly on Go!”.
As much as I respect your opinion about this particular airline, its staff and its operations, I dont think I can just let the opportunity pass like that, as I doubt I will ever get to go to Hawaii again in my lifetime!:D
Many thanks for your insight though.
Some excellent shots there!
Nice to see some stuff from somewhere different.
I have to agree that the United 747 take-off shot is stunning, but I also love the Song 757…as its been over a year since it was merged back into mainstream Delta, but it is still good to see the livery around, just a matter of time before the livery is changed over though…:( !
What is legroom like on Monarch scheduled services LGW to Alicante (or Murcia), how does it compare to likely E-J legroom? Can you select or request extra legroom seats at Monarch check-in, or is their boarding process the same free-for-all stampede as per E-J?
All thoughts welcome as I try and decide whether to cancel the GB-tickets and rebook with Monarch (or another).
Cheers
Paul F
Hi Paul,
Not exactly sure about the difference in legroom between Monarch and Easyjet, but I can’t imagine it being hugely different to be honest as the aircraft are also used on Monarch’s charter services, so legroom is not wonderful.
To answer your second point in terms of seat selection on Monarch, you can pre-allocate your seats online. By doing this, you are then able to make use of the online check-in system and I think they even allow you to print your own boarding pass off now!
You can also pre-book extra legroom seats online, which offers approx 34in seat-pitch, but there is an additional charge of £15 per seat, per one-way flight, and these seats are located on the emergency exit rows, so usual health & safety conditions will also apply.
Be aware though…as good as all of this may sound, as of 1st November Monarch introduced a hold baggage charge, whereby you pay £3.99 if you book online, £8 through the call centre or £10 at the airport! This charge is per bag, per one-way flight.
You might want to read some of the reviews on this website before making a final decision: http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/monarch.htm
Hope this helps.:D
Hullo all,
I have a request, as I know some of you here are pretty clued up on this.
Can anyone tell me, for any certainty what equipment is scheduled to operate First Choice flight FCA084 from Gatwick to Margarita on November 25th and then back again on December 10th? I’m guessing its a 767, possibly an A330.
Also, leading on from that, whats the typical seat pitch to be expected and where is best to sit? Do they have PTVs on all aircraft yet?
All the website details and brochure info is a bit vague on this info! Thanks in advance 🙂
Hi Bmused55,
The flight will be operated using a 767-300, unless as Grey Area rightly points out it is a subchartered service, but I dont think it will be!
Seat pitch…depends on whether you are travelling in Star Class Premier (premium economy), where you get a rather impressive 36in seat pitch; or normal Star Class (economy) where you get an equally impressive 33in seat pitch.
All seats have their own PTV’s; obviously those on exit rows and bulkheads will have the ones that come out of the arm-rest!
In terms of where to sit, I dont think it really matters to be honest…although I suppose it depends if you are fussy about being sat next or near to the toilets!?
One thing I would advise though is that you get to the airport early because check-in is open quite early and people always turn up earlier than necessary because they want to ensure they can sit together, and due to the config of the a/c (2+3+2), you could find yourself sat one behind each other if you check-in any later (which FCA regard as ‘sitting together’ at this stage!)
If you are proposing to stay in a hotel the night before, I would recommend the Sofitel hotel as it is directly connected to the North Terminal via a walkway.
The other good thing about staying close-by the night before is that First Choice offer a day-before check-in service (£5 per person!), where you can do the whole check-in procedure, thus meaning that you can avoid check-in on the morning of your flight, instead you can go straight through to security and into the departure lounge!
Hope this helps, any further questions, please do not hesitate to PM me!:D
WOW! SEAPLANES!:D
What a fantastic set of shots to introduce yourself with.
I was in Vancouver last year and my hotel was really close to the Harbour Air terminal…
It is unfortunate I was only there for two days, as I would of just stayed in my hotel room all day to watch these beauties!
I look forward to seeing more soon, and welcome to the forum!
Welcome to the forum. Nice to see some stuff from somewhere different!
One question, what type of a/c is the British Airways one in the background of the first photo, and what was it doing at CWL?
Look forward to seeing some more stuff soon.
I was out there back in April and got a decent bit of inter-island flying in myself. It’s so cheap, easy, and above all fun to do you’d be made not to!
The four main inter-island carriers are:
Hawaiian with 717s
Aloha with 737-200s
Go! with CRJs and a few Caravans
Island Air with Dash 8sSingle fares start from £10 one way including tax, up to a maximum of about £25 one way unless you pick a busy flight.
You have so many different options its hard to know where to start. I assume you’re starting in HNL, in which case you’ve got it easy. The best thing to do is to fly a circular route, so I would suggest something like HNL-OGG-LIH-HNL. You can easily fit in 4 or 5 segments into a day though!
I personally arrived onto the island LAX-OGG with AA, then connected onto HNL with Hawaiian on the 717. A few days later I flew HNL-JHM (Kapalua, Maui) in a Go! Caravan. I’d strongly reccomend trying to get into Kapalua in the Caravan if you can, the STOL approach puts London City to shame 😀
After that I flew the short 5 minute sector to OGG, followed by a connection to Aloha on the 732. I then flew back from HNL to LAX.
At the end of the day just book a route and stick to it. There is so much to see that you won’t get to do it all, but at the same time anything you do do is guaranteed to be a fantastic day of flying. 😎
Thank you very much for this information Mark L. Sounds like you had fun!
Am certainly looking forward to it, and whats even better is I will have a half-decent camera by then, so I will be able to take loads of pics and share them with you all!
If I could bring back any airlines, it would have to be:
BRITANNIA – I cant remember the flights themselves because I was quite young and did not have as much interest in aviation then as I do now, but I flew with them quite a few times and loved them!:D
EUJET – I never flown on this now defunct airline, but I strongly believe Kent International (Manston) Airport has got potential as an airport, and it was a shame that this particular airline failed.
Also, if anyone wishes to reminise over the uniforms of past airlines, or current airlines that have changed their uniforms, take a look at this site that I found whilst browsing the Internet: http://www.uniformfreak.com
Interesting how the BBC use a picture of the very-old Virgin livery…do they not have any up-to-date pictures?:D:diablo:
On the topic, I think that Virgin have done the right thing to suspend the member of staff in question, until a precise conclusion can be reached. Lets hope for the co-pilots sake that it proves negative and that he can get back to flying as soon as possible as it would be great shame to waste such a good career over an alcoholic beverage!
Pretty sure that the Monarch A330s and there 767 go on the short haul runs in the height of the season!
Indeed they do lukeylad, especially from LGW!
I believe that XL Airways use their 767s on their services to the Canary Islands. My Mum and Dad recently flew with them to ACE from LGW, which was a 767-200ER as it was a 2+4+2 config!
So nice shots there Josh, nice to see you yesterday!
The Clickair shot is my favourite!
P.S “LOOK, NO HANDS…lol!”:D
Wont EZY just get rid of the A320/21’s of GB, and replace them with more A319’s…and the just use the slots they acquire in order to expand their services out of LGW!? Although these a/c are practically the same, except in capacity terms, it is a complete u-turn on one of their fundamental principles of operating more than one type of aircraft?!
Also from October 2008 BA are dropping their franchise with Loganair!
Yeah I read that too…Wille Walsh has said “UK franchises have outlived their purpose!”…if anything I think this could do more damage to BA as they are loosing the routes that these franchise airlines serve, using the distinctive BA branding.
LGW serves the whole south east corner of England and STN serves East Anglia. I would hardly imagine people travelling from Ipswich to LGW when they can be at STN in 2 hours less than it takes to LGW.
I suppose it all depends on the routes that are served from the two airports though Andrew, people will travel to LGW from East Anglia if the route is not served from STN, and there are also some people who will travel from LGW because they seem to think they are getting a better deal by getting a lower price…what they dont think about is the additional time, money and stress involved in getting to LGW.
