Thank you to Everyone that posts on this thread, it is appreciated greatly! Duxford holds a special place for me, many a summer there as a kid in the 70’s, now living in the States, this thread and the occasional visit keep it going.
Especially thank you to those that provide us all with the brilliant photos, the one above is stunning !!
Happy New Year

The other one in the US is Shawn Mulligan’s. It is one of the pair that played a ‘German fighter’ in one of the Indiana Jones movies, and still had the fake guns above the nose when he got it. It used to be kept at Schellville, but I believe he moved on from there a couple of years back. Shawn was doing some really nice work on it the last time I saw it.
I remember we boxed up an absolutely immaculate Swiss-registered one at Duxford in about 1987 or so and shipped it to the US. In wonder what became of that one.
Mike, the Swiss registered one was i believe U-138. It came to EL Paso , was assembled and certified, but did not fly often. a couple of years ago, i was hired to drive to EL Paso and disassemble it for shipping to Germany. At that time, we were 2/3 done with the Planes of Fame one, and had tools and jigs to help. It is in Germany, and last time i talked to the owner, he had not begun the process of putting it back together. Shawn’s plane is close, just waiting on final engine work.

Hello All,
i just delivered N5241M ( Ex G-BONE) to the Planes of Fame in Chino for their airshow this past may. This is currently the only flying P2 in the US, and there is one more in Santa Rosa that is just waiting on completion of engine overhaul work and then it will be flying. There are no other projects in the US, the last 2 both went to Germany i believe, one that was in El Paso ( U-138), and the Ex Kermit Weeks machine.
here is a shot of the photo shoot from the Chino show.
Yes the P2 is 109 Gear. If you look at the camber of the wheels, you will see that the left gear on the P2 is the right gear on the 109. The wheel, brake, and strut are the same. the upper casting for the p2 is different. This pic taken just before we hung the engine on the current Planes of Fame P2.

=+1, Duxman, those Spit shots are brilliant, especially the top side view!
“an opportunity arose to take voluntary exit”. somewhat reminds me of ‘Where Eagles Dare’ and the double agent in the Ju-52 !
“Sit Down Colonel !”
sorry, couldnt resist

Thanks again, found a copy on Belle and Blade online, ordered it yesterday 🙂
Funny how some movies as a child just resonate. I have never forgotten that scene, and it actually contributed to the warbird history sickness we all suffer from !
Happy New Year all !
