Hello Jim
I am an Ex RAE Apprentice. 1978-1982 in Aircraft department. I will PM you my details.

My Uncle did a similar trip with Spotty M a few years ago. It didn’t have the Gibraltar bit in it, just a trip “round the bay” in a 757. He really enjoyed it.
I am very surprised that they include a trip round the hangar. Normally any visit to an airline goes to the simulators, the cabin crew training centre, the catering centre, the operation centre, the M.T. bay, the cleaners rest room and in fact ANY place that does not involve the engineering side of the operation!

Our very own John Farley must have been involved with this (it might be him driving ;-))

Manchester only gets one daily US Airways A330 flight. I think the other one went “tech” the day before and it was towed to the stand this morning before the usual one departed.
Horribly tech, with a hydraulic leak. It was fixed just as the aircrew went out of hours.

Good! It’s bad enough down the back when kids are crying but when you have spent thousands of pounds to fly up front it is un acceptable. The next time I fly first class I shall fly with Malaysian. I shall let you all know when I do as the skies will be black with low flying pigs!!!!

Looking good Steve! 😉

We may probably never know. – the truth about the incident. And if it turned out that Ryanair were mainly blameless, we are certainly unlikely to hear the truth!
Now I have to stick up for Ryanair. It is mandatory for the escape slides to be armed when you have passengers onboard and there are no steps at the aircraft. It is also mandatory to have the doors closed when there are no steps at the aircraft. (It is a six-foot drop onto concrete from the 737 door). With no conditioned air available the aircraft was going to be like an oven very quickly. Opening the doors would not have made much difference to the main part of the cabin. Believe me! I was in the cabin of a 737 doing some cabin work during the summer. We had all the doors open (With steps) all four over wing emergency exits open and the flight deck window open. I have never sweated so much in all my life!

The Boeing 747/757/767 and 777 doors are automatically disarmed by the action of pulling the external handle out of its recess. The correct way to open the door normally is from the outside because of this.
Also the initial movement of the doors (Cracking the doors) reveal the attachment points for the slide. These should be checked before continuing to open the door and this can best be done from outside. Cracking the door open will not actuate the door assist mechanism
Once these have been checked the door can be opened fully.
This procedure is the correct safe way of opening a 747/757/767 &777 door. It should be taught to the ground staff and cabin crews. It is routinely ignored!
Now as we know the 737 escape slide were an after thought. To arm or disarm them the cabin crew have to manually attach/ detach the slide to the aircraft floor. The only safe way to open a 737 door normally is from the inside

The A380 is one of the ugliest aircraft in the sky today. This livery is dull to start with, so applying it to such an ugly canvas was never going to produce a master piece.

Specifically this one: –
http://aviation-safety.net/photos/displayphoto.php?id=990109&vnr=1&kind=ESo, that door is actually in the Rear Pressure Bulkhead then? I didn’t know this at all.
The 1-11 did, I do not know the MD/DC or the 727 so I can’t comment.

Tailcones generally contain the APU but that one looked hollow? Maybe the APU was still attached inside and the final cone was jetisoned in order to let the fire crew get to the inside.
.
The DC-9/MD-80’s apu is not in the tail cone.
Rgds Cking
Why did the tail cone detatch?

The tail cone can be detatched when selected during an emergency evacuation

If the aircraft ends up on its belly the rear airstair will not open so the passengers can still evacuate out the back.

Don’t be silly Cking…the cabin crew do it, before having to clean the plane and do their security checks and onload the next hoard of cattle (sorry, customers!:D)…and all within 25mins!
😀
One other thing. If I go onto the ramp at Manchester with my Dayglo tabard UN BUTTONED, I can get fined £60!!!! Are the passenger going to be issued with a tabard for their trip accros the ramp or are Ryan air picking up the fines?
Rgds Cking
I disagree. The ramp is a very dagerous place, having passengers wondering about on it is not a good idea.
I wonder if Ryanair pay for the extra staff needed to herd the passengers off the ramp? or the insurance for the passengers whilst they are on the ramp?
