Welcome aboard Buzzer, and thanks for posting the lovely pics (especially the F-111s!), I dare say I would have met you on the hedge at some stage!

What single event or combination has taken place which has placed a cloud of suspicion over us all, to the point whereby we stand accused by inference of being liars, cheats and imposters ?

Purely and simply computors and the internet, the very same things that we all hoped would ease our lifestyles!

I wouldn’t know tbh, not sure how many times a rotary airframe can be rebuilt, especialy when you consider the stresses running through it. Would think engines are easier, but gearboxes must be an issue one would think.
When you consider that this service has been operating since January 1964, G-ATBJ above was delivered to BEA in April ’65, it would put many fixed wing operations to shame in regard to longevity of type in use.

BIH own the land and want to sell it to the council for development, the plan was to move the helicopter operations to Newquay with some flights from Lands End, which of course doesn’t make sense as there are already cheaper fixed wing flights from both these places. The more sceptical think that it may be a plan to end this Scilly rotary service for good, as the S-61s are getting on a bit now for passenger service and replacement will be expensive.
I’m unsure how that plan is progressing now as it was first mooted back in early 2008, hopefully some one has seen sense top leave this superbly placed, historic, and well respected service where it is.
Indeed there are members of my family that rely on this service for their livlihoods, namely getting the first flowers in the UK to the London markets.

BTW I thoroughly recommend an S-61 ride!

Excellent pictures Cliff, my grandad worked for BIH at St Marys and Penzance and I’ve always had a thing for the Sikorsky S-61N, in fact my earliest memory was a flight in one and peering out of the window at the huge float.
Sad news that the heliport at Eastern Green is under threat of closure, it is in a perfect position there at the end of the main line and A-30.

Thank you for bringing to our attention the loss of another great pilot, I can only guess at what it must have been like to carry out the actions that he did in the contribution to our freedom. RIP

Sorry, but to re clarify my position, from post #1 to #25 there is no sign of silly speculation or anything beyond unreasonable interest, just some vague info, conversation about contacting the airfield, and humourous (silly?) banter about a crane.
Please allow me to point you to the last eight or so posts in the Vulcan XH558 thread where there are some really wild posts about the Vulcan hyd problem (which turns out to be trivial) and speculation about what if it had come down in a built up area.
Some of the posts in the Reds thread were frankly ridiculous, but again the thread wasn’t locked.
And nor should they (or this) be locked, if threads start to get out of hand there should be warnings or the relevant bad posts removed.

What I’m saying is that I have great respect for Peter and Bruce, and their task here is a thankless one, but there doesn’t seem to be a cohesive policy on what should be locked, removed, or warned about, and as this is one of the most trivial threads I was surprised it was this one that was locked, in doing so it has caused more interest in the non incident than otherwise.
    Mark12s point shows this.

Bomberboy thanks for your understanding I was a perhaps a bit brusque in how I put my point over.
Mark Pilkington, I do agree with you aswel in a general sense.

thank you Peter and Bruce for responding, I know that you don’t have to:)

BTW we still have the sensational title running;)

Stresses on the airframe would be calculated and very little, the pull up into a barrel role wouldn’t apply as many G as what appears to the crowd.
By the way this is the second thread on exactly the same videoclip in less than 24 hrs, http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?t=111532
And we have a special section in which to post videos.
