    Sad indeed, I must have been the only spotter that welcomed the arrival in the circuit the 115 Sqn Andover E.3 flight checker, their presence usually meant that nothing else could pitch up for an hour or so, but I loved the sight and noise of the old Avro and Darts.
    I really do hope this one finds its way into preservation – unlikely I guess.

    Exactly, I even wondered if I had the date wrong!

    At the very least I would think that XH558 would have done a fly through at Woodford, and even Scampton, Coningsby, Cottesmore, and Waddington.
    After all, isn’t that one of the reasons it flys, to commemorate the engineering skills that created it, and the service use of the type?

    I know this is wishful thinking in the extreme, but wouldn’t it be great to see the K.4 painted up in its old BOAC ‘Super’ colours before it retires!

    That will be a sad occasion, love the Andover and its noise!
    I’m guessing that will also mark the end of the RR Dart flying in the UK, perhaps even Europe?

    I’ve seen it before here, but I don’t get it either.

    And if they are, please consider taking in St Athan, still a few people here that would like to see this formation, or even one of the type flying through!

    Excellent, tonights programme was far better and actually felt like it was made by a different team.
    Seemed much better researched with some great supporting period footage that was correctly choosen (ie Comet I footage when Comet Is were being talked about!).
    Only downside for me was not mentioning the fairly successful BAC 1-11, and less successful Trident alongside the VC-10, surprised at no mention of our contribution to the Concorde programme.
    The Britannia footage was superb, but the Howard Hughes story really encapsulated the British aviation industrys’ short comings.

    I believe it marks the end of the pure RAF C.1K in service, the K.3/4 retiring next year sometime, although Archer will know better.

    Thanks for the answers about the blue, any confirmed info would be appreciated, also does anyone know what blue it is (ie BS number, shade)? It looks to be lighter than the roundel blue.

    edit, on second look it appears exactly like roundel ble, so will go with that!

    It’s the one slated to go to RAFM Cosford, XR808.

    As DB says, it’s worn the scheme since late May.
