RE: Picture of the day 04/12/01

I’ve just set myself 50 lines -“I must pay attention to detail”, “I must pay attention to detail” , “I must………………..
Firstly ,I did take the shot at Leeming not Coningsby ( I knew it was one of the stations that my Bro-in-law was on Tornados at).
Secondly i had sort of read the article in Flypast and thought “thats a nice Lightning” without paying attention to the serial number.
And thirdly a colleague from work had recently been to visit one of our suppliers on Quedgeley business estate and came back raving about a silver Lightning that he had seen parked nearby.
I will research a little more before i post next time.

    Unlimited air racing

If this means anything like that charade that takes place in the US where perfectly good vintage aircraft are bastardised in the name of entertainment, then quite frankly NO.
Sorry, but i feel quite strongly about this , its a bit like taking a Jaguar D type, shoehorning an ugly Chevvy V8 in which sticks out of the bonnet, panel beating the lines and moving the driving position to the center to try and make it go around corners quicker.

    RE: One day…

Sorry Sadsack i have to disagree about the paint scheme, this Beau will be unique so its needs to be as representative as possible. I think it should rotated through the various schemes as is the Blenheim. Later this week i will hopefully post a picture of the last Beau i saw sat on its wheels at Abingdon in 1968, that was in black nightfighter scheme.

I agree, with an endless pot of cash a Staggerwing would have to be on the shopping list, regardless of its paint scheme.

Thanks for your comments, its a shame that i cant reproduce the original slide quality when posting the pics, but with a file limitation of only 75k its very difficult. I accept that the file size has to limited otherwise the web space would soon get gobbled up.
When i get my own web site sorted, hopefully early next year i will be putting up higher res images.

Another view of the same aircraft.
First shot was taken at Baginton (Coventry)50’s airshow last year, this one at Duxford early this year. I will try and get my shots of F8 ‘Winston'(sadly departed these shores) scanned as a comparison.
PS Ant- I thought this was an NF11 rather that 12 ?

Yes, all of the pictures are taken by me and i am gradually archiving to CD but given the number that i have got it wil take a couple of years to complete.
I use conventional (ie not digital) equipment, all Nikon with a range of lenses from wide angle to 400mm and always use Fuji Provia film stock.
I hope to be launching a web site in the new year aimed purely at advertising and hopefully selling my pictures.

    RE: Fighter collection Sales

I can understand the Spit (ML417 me thinks), but the Mitchell and Skyraider – why and whats coming in their places ?.
The Mitchell should be here its representative of the period and the only flier in the UK. The Skyraider, although not a ‘native’type is still nevertheless an important historic aircraft.

Yes David you are right, it was an observation rather that a critisism.I saw the Hurricane after the accident when it was back at Conningsby (my brother-in-law was nav on the Lanc at the time so i enjoyed good access) and quite honestly i did not think it was rebuildable.

RE: Ah, the good old days.

And i thought i had been around a long time !!.
Still, at least us old uns have good memories of shows like the’At Home’ days, days when the RAF really could put on a display. The good thing was like Steve said you never really knew what you were going to get.
Massed Lightning and Hunter formations, more than one Vulcan in the air at the same time, more than one Beverly up ,and well i could go on and on.

    RE: Just trying out

Yes Ant, Coventry 50’s was the only display the NordNoratlas did and as you say its a pity because its a very interesting aicraft. This was in fact the one and only time i had seen one in the flesh, lets hope it wasn’t the last. Also lets hope that Air Atlantique are able to stage more of the same as both the 50’s shows were great.

As far as posting the pictures go this was my first atttemp on this forum after the revamp and it was very easy. When you open the post template go to the ‘attachments’ prompt and open your windows explorer, locate the file and roberts your relative.
I will post another picture soon, dont know what of yet, I’ll just pick one from the many that I have burned to CD. In fact i might just post a picture of the day, every day.

    Phil
