I hope tomorrow wind is inthe southeast as I live to the north west of the airfield and will be stuck at home preparing for some building work, this should mean all aproaches will be over my head.
Bloody typical, nearest air event to me and I cant go, mind you I’ve been the last three yours and really enjoyed them so good luck all involved, hope the weather holds.

As much as I would like to be there and back in the aviation fold I will be in Cleveland Ohio for my sins.
I will take a thought on the Sunday.

I have been putting off writing in here, because there are no words good enough.
I will remember with with tear in my eye every time I see a Spitfire, but I always do.
I will remember all those that Ray represented, I will remember those men, those brave men.
I will remember those Duxford days, both now and then. I will remember Ray and son, boy could they fly.
I will remember, happy days,I will remember first and sadly lasts.
I will remember, big fly pasts, I will remember men so good, I will remember Hoof, I will remember Mark.
I will remember, beat ups ,tails chases, oh those tail chases, high level, low level, oh those low levels.
I will remember, summer days, high sun haze, merlins all burblin, then out of the sun RJM’s wonder, words cannot express.
I will remember the man, the awe, the pleasure, the joy,to be inspired as a boy.
I will remember my father so inspired years ago, I will remember ‘at home days’,I will remember.
    God I wil remember.

    Sorry Jur,
I should have answered you as well.
I appreciate that the focal length is increased on a DSLR, however I had hoped that the VR function would handle that.
I have used this lens for about 12 months or more on film cameras with no problem and have owned various long lenses (300/400mm) over the years and have not had problems with hand held camera shake and I always used 100 asa, sometimes 50.
I have been presenting my work to audiences for about ten years now in the form of slide lectures and have always got great comments back about the quality. So I think this current problem is my lack of understanding of taking digital images rather than my lens or my photographic technique.
I welcome your comments and help and lok forward to getting some first hand advice on the ground at OW from some of you.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys.
    To answer a few questions:-

I’m sure that the VR is working (this is Nikon’s version of Image stability), however I will try some shots with it turned off. The ‘limit’ I mentioned is the function that limits the focal lenghth that the autofocus has to work in, ie if you are only using the lens at the long end it will only have to AF in that range.
The image data that I have found is that most images are 2240 X 1480 JPeg’s with file sizes of about 1.2 – 1.5 MB, clearly not big enough.

I am going on holiday this weekend so i’ll spend some time trying some of the advice thats been offered here.
I’m not new to avaition photography, i have been at it a long time and with good results, some of you may recall that I was one of the original picture posters on this forum, I backed off when some of the digital experts came on line. Its just that I have expectations and have seen the quality that can be achieved and as yet am not acheiving it.
Your advice is very useful, so thanks to all.
I have even started to read the handbook this evening!!

I have always used shutter priority, I suppose I have got used to working that way and I can control shots of prop aircraft better that way, ie keeping it down at 1/250th or slower. It works well for static, although I have often used apeture priority when altering DOF tp push backgrounds out.
I’m using the VR lens and setting it as always on limit so focus should be no problem.
I cant tell what the individual shot diagnostics are as they are all off camera and not saved in the camera software either. I would suspect the Jungmann and Fury shots to have been using a shutter speed of around 1/250th, matrix metering, ISO set at 200 (wont go lower) and image size set at fine -medium size.
    Any help appreciated.

    Sir,
Did I also meet you last week, Tuesday evening, when the Medical Physics meeting took over the museum ? I was, well still am!, the very enthusiastic guy with a camera around his neck.
I talked to several very helpful and proud people from the Museum as I dashed around getting my pictures whislt the daylight lasted.I was a real honour to be there and meet you fellows.
Good luck to you, and wow to your brother.
I have all back issues of Flypast but not in very good order so It could take a very long time, but I’ll have quick go.

Best regards and thanks for a fine museum.

I have only just got back from the US so have only just read this terrible news.
I only met Steve once at OW, but you did’nt really need to met him to know he was a nice guy, this forum and the friendship shown by and to him told you that.
I feel very saddedned to know that someone as giving and vibrant has gone from us and feel greatly for his family.I’m afraid having young children of my own made it extremely difficult seeing his young lad having such fun in the earlier pictures, knowing that he won’t ever see his dad again.God lifes tough at times.
I will certainly take a moment tomorrow to pay my respects from here and will be at OW Sunday.

The first telly I have watched in ages (other than the programe before it ) and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Are they really going to be flying Sally B alone as a novice crew ? or is that just telly hype.
I did not hear the narrator mention that the Lanc they viewed was NX611 not PA474, and that the other airworthy aircraft was in Canada. A bit nit picky I know but it might give the illusion that they had access to both the worlds airworthy Lancs during the filming as when they are filmed with the BBMF it will clearly be a different aircraft.
