RE: Just trying out
Ah, it worked.
No limit to the amount of pictures that i will post now !!
RE: Ah, the good old days.
Great times,
I started going to ‘At Home’ days in my pram(1958), and every year thereafter.I used to love dragging my Dad around every exhibit, i would not miss anything. I remember some of the hangar things , such as the guys jumping from the balcony to simulate proper jumps. The model aircraft were always good, i remember petering to get one of those.
It was such a great adventure every year, Abingdon or Benson.I went to every one until the last.
The only thing is probably the fact that i did not realise the significance of some of the aircraft in the early days, many of them have long gone now and some of them we are struggling to keep at least one airworthy.
Whether its just a childhood thing or not i’m not sure, but those 60’s and 70’s ‘at home’ days seemed to be the best airshows i have ever seem.
Spitfires seem to be the only thing that have increased since those days!!.
Vamps, Venoms,Valiants, Victors, Vulcans,Meteors,Javelins, Hunters,Lightnings,Gnats,Fury’s, Gannets,Hastings,Beverly’s……..need i go on.
Phil.
RE: Which Spitfire is it ??
Cold sweat for a while i read ML407 first time around.
RE: Hendon
Thanks Lancman,
I was planning a visit during the winter months,as i have not been for about 6 years, so your comments are welcome.

RE: Catalina flies into Lee-On-Solent
I’m sure that it would be expensive, but hey, if they are prepared to do it and get the bookings and finance it will be a great sight. Although I suspect one will be sold across the pond to fund the other.
I’m looking forward to seeing a Cat at shows again, its one of those ‘ i didnt realise i would miss it until its gone’ sort of aircraft.

RE: The notorious Centaurus
Sorry Guys,
I was trying to track down the guy i was speaking to about the Centaurus so as i could get the facts straight, unfortunately i have not ben able to speak to him yet. I am an engineer but not unfortunately on aero engines. I if remember rightly the cahp was telling me about the difficulty in timing the cylinders individually on 18cyl radials, in particular the Centaurus. He said that in his opinion RNHFs Fury was exhibiting all the signs of not getting the timing correct, ie the damage to a sleeve which has resulted in metal particles being ingested further down the engine.
I will try again to track the chap down as he was very intersting, i met him whilst giving a talk at a club where i showed slides of Fury amonst others.

RE: Best single engined fighter-bomber of WW2?
Scooter,
Those in the know will disagree with you about the radial being better than the in-line.
The Centaurus is notorious for its intense sevice requirements, i was talking to someone recently who had worked on both Napiers and Centaurus whilst in sevice and hated the Bristol. He also reckoned the recent engine failure of the RNHF Fury was due to lack of engine knowlege !!
RE: RN Historic Flight
Thanks Mark,
Thats all very good news, perhaps they should take on the Gannet thats sat at Sandtoft doing nothing!.

RE: I give up
Thanks David,
I know little if anything at all about this aircraft, please tell me more. Where is this resident? are the markings on it authentic?. I have been through my history of the RAF and can find no reference at all.
RE: P-51D Mustang vs F4U-4 Corsair
Neither, it was the Mosquito !!!!
RE: Concorde Flying again
Yep, she arrived at Brize at about 5.40 this afternoon , i was going over but it was absolutely tipping down(heard her through the mirk). She will stay there until the end of the week apparently, possibly doing some further tests from there, so i’m on standby to dash over.
I have heard that the rest of the fleet will all do some post mod test flights in and out of Brize Norton over the coming months, should make some good viewing around here, just like the old days !.
RE: your favorite airplane
Sorry guys,
I was only joking and really did not intend to offend anybody. At the end of the day we obviously all enjoy aircraft and aviation and as with any other subject there will be personal preferences.
My comments were suposed to be a bit of fun, just a bit of banter from the warbird/ military quarter.
Please accept this as an appology.

RE: your favorite airplane
I don’t often drop down the menu from the Flypast forum, now i see why!. Airliners are buses surely ?. I fly buisiness wise and to me A320. 737, 757 ….bla bla bla are all means of getting there!.
Now real aircraft, well thats different, my favorite, um let me see, No, sorry too many to mention.
Get into the real thing, don’t hang around airports !!!.
RE: VC10
Whats all this past tense stuff about the VC10 ? even as i write this mail i can hear 4 RRconways powering a ’10’ through the skies.
I live on the Brize Norton circuit and see 10’s every 10-15mins(amongst many others), its a shame that this mail cannot be supported by sound.
On my last visit to RAF Bzn i had the pleasure of flying in one(and a Tristar), very enjoyable albeit not in the original livery. We were also told at that time that the ’10’ would see active service with RAF until at least 2010.Mind you that was before the delivery of the C17’s were agreed!.
