The Hendon museum

Just think how lucky you are at all to have these wonderful aeroplanes on show at all! lets face it they all could have been scrapped (to give my mum more than one saucepan) post war. So what if the lights not good.,,,, we can’t have everything.
I haven’t been since the place first opened. It seemed better then as fewer aeroplane made more of an impression on me.

Hi Darrell did you see the PM i sent you re that web site regarding same
you could alway contact the site owner who has many facts about these thing as he helped me quite a lot. Though as someone else has stated that serial no for the Wimpy aeroplane doesn’t seem right it could perhaps be it was a typo in the papers you got it from? just a thought.

Re Bomber boys

Would be lovely to see more such programmes – Coastal Command would get my vote. My grandfather’s memoirs are being published in October and will certainly give some insight to long patrols and danger. Would also like to see one on training command

While I won’t knock the efforts of the BBC to show progammes of this quailty(very good) The above quote says it all for me as I lost an Uncle the same way (long sea going patrols and many hours of long seemingly unending flying search patterns) I might also say that though the Lancaster is a legend it is a great pity there is no Halifax and Wimpy still airbourne (not sure about that last spelling) Also no matter how hard we try, we hopefully will never recreate the same conditions as that which our parents had to go though.

The word aerodrome

The word aerodrome is still in my use, so is railway station and many others that “the papers” and other don’t think exsist any longer. What we tend to forget is that modes of speaking and words do change over the years. mostly due to film and tv influence. Just listen to any flim pre 1955.

Perhaps the paper had a space to fill (what no advert to fill it)
But then perhaps I’m being a little cynical, no I can’t believe that?

Well Is this going to “the pictures” or just watching something indoors?
the last film I saw in “the picture house” was Woman in love I don’t get out much then do I! I would like to see Reach for the sky with Ken Moore in it but will have look out for it.

Its a classic and perhaps thats the best thing we do is have the ability to laugh at ourselves. I always watch the repeats still laughing at the same jokes even though you remember it from the last time.
