The Mitre pub in Cambridge has a photo on the wall of a Brab thats covered in dozens of signatures….
At least I think it’s The Mitre.. It’s the first pub on the left after you come down Castle Hill & go over the river…
I’ve got bloody thousands of the “purple riverts” in my garage, must be close to 150lb of them, all sizes π
THose are fairly easily found colours, just go to any autopaint supplier & ask for OD green & olive green. sorted.
If you’re near Southampton my step brop could mix it up for ya & even put some in rattlecans for touch ups….
Someone asked me a question about the bomb missions markings & I didn’t have an answer for him:
Whats the difference betrween red & yellow bombs.. & what do the icecreams signify?
I thought the yellow was HE & the red was Incendiary? but I’m lost with the cornetos….
Spotted it again last night because I happened to be out at the airfield. π Bumped into a mate who was out there with his Lear camera ship, no jollies, but my kid had a good look around it before they took off to do some filming with a C17 & 737 out of Edwards AFB.
EAA B17 Aluminum Overcast droned over my house about 11.30 this morning & landed at Fox Field (Lancaster Ca). It’s off to Van Nuys in a day or two. My kid wants to go see it after school tomorrow is it’s still here.
Did we ever find out about the Rougham Heinkel? or whatever Luftwaffe kite parts are probably still sitting behind the barn at Brick Kiln Farm?
Formation of 4x F117’s buzzed my house a few days ago, going a bit rapid & fairly low. Some duffer at Plant 42 must have retired…
Whats the current story on the Flixton (?) P47?
The “78th FG Ranchero” paint job continues to take shape.
The hood is Olive Drab & the underside of it is Olive Green. That blue isn’t some strange SBD or PR blue, it’s PPG DP60LF epoxy primer, reduced & used as sealer. Door & tailgate jambs will be olive green in a couple of weeks.
The invasion stripes will each be 6in wide. That fits in prefectly with the 30in wide rear wheel arches. The rest of it will be silver with the NG/NG script on the left door.
The plan is to have the majority of the paintwork done in time for Chino in May.
I have another GT hood that will have the black/white checker pattern on the front half with the OD from the front of the scoop back… both scoops are already semi-gloss black.
I’m still toying with the idea of dummy .50cals faired into the side of each fender between the top edge & the body line…… I have a spare set of “scrap” fenders to play with:eek: :diablo: π
As you can see, this is the “bubble top” version, however, I could transform it into a razor-back with the addidtion of a camper shell.. π

And sadly nowhere near enough to recreate the scenes in Apocalypse Now! π :diablo:
Few years back some bright spark lead a flight of 31 Hueys from a Northern California training ground back to his base.. & thought it would be nice to fly over LA… via the Sepulveda Pass…..:diablo:
There’s a VA Hospital in the Sepulveda Pass… & it has a *Psych* ward…..
Apparently they were still peeling the patients off the walls 3 days later….
or the B-26 that downed a me-323?
323? ya mean 262? if so, the pilot of that B26 retired as an airport cop at Van Nuys not so long ago… & until fairly recent there was an A&P mech on that field who’s licence was signed by one of the Wright brothers…
π
I’ve worked on one of the L Michigan Wildcats & it was in such good nick that the paint inside the cockpit etc is original…
There was a quote at the time of filming, I think from Hoof or maybe Mark (altho now I’ve said that it will probably turn out to be Ray..) something along the lines of either “not many other people out dropping bombs from P51’s today” or “we’re probably the last pilots to drop bombs from Mustangs”
