It threw the cowling off today & the shrapnel shredded the wings etc. Kermit was right over the airport & he’s fine. Pup looks a bit worse for wear.

SOFIA went off for a check ride yesterday afternoon. Apparently the check ride involved beating up March AFB for 10 minutes or so. Two passes along the runway, then over the freeway overpass at the North end of the field & a 3rd off to the East side behind the airfield buildings. I’d guess 747’s beating up airfields is kinda rare..
Rutley: I think you misunderstood my comment. You don’t build the earth bank to keep them out, you build it to keep them in….
A quick circuit of the field with a manure thrower is another option…
This is allegedly one of the aircraft involved. Appears to be a bit more than *minor* damage. However, no confirmation that this is N4356K yet.

Go ask the land owner if he’d like you to exercise a couple of Tanks around the field at 3am…. The other option is get a backhoe & block the entrance to the field with a huge pile of dirt, at some point they will ask to leave.
Question time: Who uses the 3 nissen hut looking buildings, & for what…. & is the big one the hangar that used to be where the Lanc hangar is now?

They weren’t showing any bids at all when I hit the rack last night (about 8am UK time). Checked it when I got up this morning & it was sold.
At least with a sale price of 100K we can safely assume that it won’t be weighed for $150/ton as scrap. It all fit inside a 40ft conex so I’m guessing no more than 20 tons.
SOFIA is on it’s way back from Germany, ETA 2-2.30pm
Yesterday:

Unfoundium, a rare isotope of Unobtainium 🙂
Jeeze, what have I started? LOL!!
Some daft sod has apparently paid £100,000 for it.
It appears that any provenance is rapidly evaporating. Maybe Avro Heritage knew it was just some old shed that had the Avro logo painted on the front for aesthetic reasons.
I just invented a new chemical element on FaceBook after someone posted a pic of something & asked for ideas regarding it’s identification:
Gillespium.
1, Something that isn’t what it’s claimed to be.
2, Something that no one can positively identify.
I’m rather proud of that 🙂
Edit: & now someone else has come up with Amelium LOL!
Two days to go & still no one willing to post the £70,000 minimum bid. I think they’re going to have to be a lot more realistic about a 40ft Conex full of scrap metal 😉
That’s almost $95,000. I can buy five new ones that size here for the same price…

or one 5x bigger.
That sounds like a fun solvent to mess about with. Found another ref that mentioned mixing it with linseed oil.
Isn’t that related to creosote?
