Carly Simon’s You’re so Vain…has a pop star flying,
“…you flew your Learjet to Nova Scotia to see a total eclipse of the sun..”
Allegedly, not a pop star, but Warren Beatty…

Seeing the 2008 anniversaries thread rising to the surface again made me wonder….
What we will be celebrating or remembering come 2009?
Off the top of me head; 90 years Vimy Atlantic crossing, 60 years both DH Comet and EE Canberra first flight.

Some of you may have seen this but it is quite interesting footage

A dead calm sea, you’ll notice. In the ‘real’ world, with the deck rising and falling 30 feet or so, arrival would have been infinitely more interesting. Presumably the idea behind the trials was possible emergency recovery during a mission?
Series to be shown on the new Military channel sky ch 531 starting Wed 15th October
http://www.thehistorychannel.co.uk/site/tv_guide/full_details/Technology/programme_594.phpI missed it first time round
I think this is a one-off programme and not a series; it’s mildly interesting – there’s not a lot of warbird flying, more a bunch of Aussies hacking their way thru’ the jungle and swearing a lot.:D
Have just got round to uploading this but its well worth it I hope you’ll think. This is footage I shot at Duxford Flying Legends 2008 of the mass formation (balbo) of some of the finest warbirds in the world.

Enjoy!
Every year I swear that I’m not going to Legends because it getting samey. Every year I go anyway, primarily to see the Balbo, having seen every one since the start back in the early 90’s. One of the impressive sights in the airshow milieu. Thanks for that, Fresh, were you using the video function on a ‘stills’ digital or do you have a digital video camera?
Spartan from Little Gransden has just buzzed then landed at Panshanger 16.30hrs. V. nice looking machine, my first viewing of it.
I have just learned that my friend Flight Lieutenant Doug Turner DFC has sadly passed away after a short illness.
Doug flew the Mosquito variant with the 6-pounder gun with 618 Squadron, and sank a U-boat with it in March 1944 – the first person to do so. His story is in the long out-of-print book “Most Secret Squadron” which was written by his navigator Des Curtis.
RIP Doug.
Farewell, Sir, I didn’t know you but your generation, and the generation before that fought in the ‘Great War’, were simply the best that this nation has produced.
Very nice pics as usual, Nick, but was it you who was standing in front of the Dornier Do 28 and kept getting in the way when I tried snapping said aircraft? It’s a crying shame that the crap weather and the Vulcan effect at Duxford conspired to bring in an poor OW crowd which I estimated at about 600 souls, I daresay they made a fair old financial loss on the day.
Not too sure how small they make them, or how much they cost, but we had one of these where I served my apprenticeship β it was used as a temporary storage areaβ¦. itβs still sat in the corner of the site, 30 years later!

Dean.
You beat me to it, Dean. I’ve also used Rubb Buildings in a warehousing application and they are very durable and weather resistant, and you shouldn’t have any trouble selling on when you’ve finished. I believe they can also be leased – although this could turn out to be an expensive option it would enable you to aquire the most suitable size for different stages of the project.
