Skeeter spotted at a height of 6 feet a.g.l. speeding west towards Watford at 16.30 hrs. today – it was on the back of a lorry on the A405, perhaps destined for trip on M1.

Why ? where to ? anybody know ?

Some very nice images there, Mr. PP, although your comment about gratuitous topside shots had me leering (for all the politically incorrect reasons) for about a nano-second. As you were positioned near the control tower you obviously wasn’t the guy near the Air Atlantique Dragon Rapide who was sporting the most enormous piece of equipment I have seen in 40 years of SLR photography. Damn thing was so big he had to use a swivelling mount to rest it on. It brought on a severe case of lens envy, and I shudder to think what it cost.

Nothing to fear, dust storms are standard operating procedure here during the summer. I don’t even bother to look outside anymore! Blowing dust and possible thunderstorms are expected every day this week matter of fact.

Chad (in the Phoenix area obviously)

Thanks, Chad, it just looked a bit nasty to me – we don’t get any sandstorms here in the green and pleasant land, just the occasional mini-twister and more rain than we really need !

I stand corrected about Jessops, MMc – thank you. But I have had irreplacable films wrecked by High Street shops, unfortunately. And it has to be said I did wonder if anyone would misunderstand what I meant about ‘specialist’ processing; I actually amended my reply to Ivan about 4 times before I sent it ( obviously didn’t work ! ).:o

Congratulations, Spade Grip, I also have just passed the 100 mark after a couple of years. My membership of this forum has resulted in a massive increase in self-confidence,my personal popularity has reached an all time high, I am mobbed in the street wherever I go, and all my friends have commented that I am even more insufferable than I was before. Needless to say I also have increased success with the laydees, and I owe this all to my membership of this elite band of protagonists of the art of aerial racontour-ism.

……..sorry, just fell out of bed and woke up……….:p

Many thanks chaps. Think I’ll take it into Jessops when I get chance. I’ll let you know the results. Thanks for the advice Michael. Much appreciated.

I’ve nothing against Jessops, but they’re probably (as a high street chain) not geared up to handle an ‘oddball’ task like this, although I may be wrong. Suggest you buy a good photo mag and ring round the specialist processing labs that advertise therein. You shouldn’t have to travel too far in your part of the country to get to a decent outfit, and it’s better to be safe than sorry!

In pipedream territory, I’d like to see a few more inter-war types around; Siskin, Wapiti and the like. Unfortunately these are not a big enough attraction for the expense to be justified, as I believe Richard Fairey found out with his Flycatcher replica a few years back. At least that can now be seen at Yeovilton, IIRC.

😀 Heathrow Airport 1955 – low wire fences; Stratocruisers, Connies, Ambassadors, Vikings, DC7C, etc.
And 5 shilling (25 pence) joy rides in Dragon Rapides (up over the reservoirs and back down).

Like I said, I have never been. TFC keep sending me flyers for it every year (I wrote to them once with a query sometime in the early nineties)…

I know I’m in a minority now, but for me, it is still one of those shows which is always on the ‘must go one day’ list… What doesn’t help is when you ask how good it really is, most people reply in the negative or with seeming disinterest…….:(

    LL,
don’t worry about us old f*rts affecting indifference, it’s a pose we take every year – uber cool, dude – we’ll all be there on the day. And make sure you get down there sometime soon, the next show as good is across the big pond.

Isn’t that what I said ????

    EN,
your message wasn’t up on my screen when I wrote my script – a case of great minds think alike, I believe. Anyway, the Guinots and a Strike Eagle at Legends – what’s it coming to ?

That should cover it I reckon 😉

Also a F15E, presumably there to do a ‘Heritage’ flypast with the P38 (?)

Have the finds from the area definately been identified as Roman, because the site doesn’t seem to conform to the rectilinear planforms that they preferred? The northern feature appears more like a pre-Roman earthwork – (my O/S map indicates such a feature about one kilometre due W., just S. of a place called Ten Acre Wood).
The closeness of the West Looe River makes me think that this was a defensive compound against attack from such a direction, principally to stop cattle being stolen – I’m assuming the river is tidal this close to the sea. Datewise my guess is any time from Bronze age to Medieval. Just because Roman finds may have been found adjacent doesn’t mean that it’s their work.
Having said the above, I am by no stretch of the imagination an archaelogist, just have an interest and voicing a few thoughts.

Released after only five days, she is now in home detention due to a medical problem. The good thing is, she now has to ‘serve’ the full 45 days.
