Can a P51 prop be feathered when the engine is dead? Wondering why the prop wasn’t feathered in this instance?

I’ll always remember the P38 in it’s silver paint sceme being demonstrated one press day Thursday before Flying Legends (year escapes me).
Stephen Grey was displaying her on what was quite a gray cloudy day.
I’d always thought the P38 was an underpowered and not very good aircraft until that day.
The power dives, climbs and loops it performed were truly awe inspiring.
    Happy days.

Anyone know why the Me109-E didn’t display?
She was obviously expected as the programme clearly shows her as (potentially) attending.

Could the perspex have become brittle due to temperatures over the pond?
Must have been cold over Greenland awnd Iceland.

I too enjoyed Headcorn. Sad the Twin Seat Buchon didn’t fly but made up for by the other displays. The Harvards at the end reminded me of Gary Neuman in the radial pair days.
Had a relaxed family feel to it much like North Weald or Biggin Hill.
Some nice shots of the BBMF Spit and Hurricane refuelling near the museum.
Yes, the P38 wing section was a little grim. But I guess it’s become part of aviation history in it’s own right.

Nice to see some exhaust staining, That will please the model makers (me included).
Perhaps they can leave it on for the weekend.

At Blackbush last weekend they ran up a Bristol Hercules engine.
Now, the Merlin may have a sweet sound but for sheer power that Hercules is hard to beat.
Would really love to see `something` fly with one or more of those in it!

Isn’t the problem the RAF had at Dunkirk the same one the American escort fighters had over Germany.
That is, if you are over the beaches (or near the American bombers) you are tactically at a disadvantage and ultimately ineffective?
Good for morale, bad for tactics.

By B17 they didn’t mean a SAAB B17 Dive Bomber did they?

Those metal clips are often used on canvas bags or holdalls.
I used to have a vintage tackle box (possibly made from army surplus) made from canvas that had them.

Must be pretty daunting knowing that if you loose the engine you’ll loose the aircraft.
Testament to the reliability of that venerable old Merlin.

Thanks for clearing up the Vampire Venom confusion (I think 🙂 )
At least I don’t feel so bad now getting them wrong.

So how do you tell a Vampire from a Venom?
I always thought the Venom had a shorter nose? So why does one Vampire have a short nose, one a long nose?
