Nothing has ‘killed’ N Weald – its still very much alive as the various picture threads attest. There are many events held there each year and there is a lot to for the enthusiast to see. Recently new residents have moved in and every weekend sees plenty of movements from the resident organisations that are based there such as the Gnat Pair, Kennet Aviation and Hangar 11. The Air Britain Fly IN was held a few weeks ago and Pup Cub gathering a weekend or two ago and recently there have been night shoots, the Norwegian Day and there is the upcoming open day in September.

The airfield also hosts a varity of other events from a large Saturday market to car enthusiasts days, driver training, hovercrafting, archery. There is always something going on there and diversity is the secret to giving the place more appeal to a wider audiance rather than a purrely aviation focus.

Please do not write off a thriving airfield.

I wasn’t aware of any of that going on. Maybe they need to shout a little louder?

I imagine #1 be difficult with the pile of user fees pilots have to pay.

    What killed North Weald?
Used to have an airshow, a few aviation events each year. Now not much happening for the enthusiast. If you want to keep the airfield alive gotta have some aviation events.
Otherwise what’s the point, it just becomes historically interesting but nothing more.

An appeal is being made for donations to raise the aircraft and answer some questions as no other organization is interested in the recovery.

You would think the authorities would recover the aircraft. There must be an RN or other European naval vessel near by that could raise it?

It’s bollox like that above that has stopped people reading them.

Apparently both the Telegraph, and then The Times, propagated the same story about an outside half loop at 250ft in the following days. We can guess where their ‘journalists’ researched the story, can’t we?

I can’t be bothered with newspapers and getting increasingly frustrated with the news on TV.
When there is a disaster either natural or man made the first 24 hours seems to be who can dream up a higher death toll than the next.
Up to 100 feared dead when it turns out to be two.
Take the sun we have been having. If you listened to the news we would have been using wheel barrows to remove the deluge of dead caused by the heat.
Old people and children must have been dropping like flies.

    Nice gunner mock up.

You can actually buy that figure if it’s still available. I have one in my display cabinet. Can be expensive though as the RRP was £110.

    16.35hrs Apache into RMA Sandhurst.

Yep, saw that! Flew next to the Atrium. Can’t have been more than a few hundred feet! Makes a change from the usual traffic out of Blackbush.

Did anyone see the countdown to D-Day program that was on TV on June 6 narrated by Peter Snow?
It featured an historian who had been researching D-Day for the last 25 years. What he was trying to do was
piece together every picture, every cine movie, every document into a comprehensive, blow by blow, minute by minute account.
He even plotted the direction of the sun, the time on soldiers watches to map together the events.
I would really like to see more about this man as the program only touched on him and what he was doing. Would make a great dvd or book.

There was a very interesting program on TV yesterday. The stories of soul survivors of air disasters were interviewed and their stories told.
One woman found herself falling through the air after the airliner she was in broke up. She fell 2km and survived.
Another lady was in an airliner that crashed. Herself and the man opposite survived, although he only survived briefly. There she was trapped with broken hips
while everyone else in the cabin was dead.
I wish I had the opportunity to ask those people what really matters to them in their lives now.
To know you should be dead but somehow bucked the trend.

I am connected to my wireless with my ipad and have typed in the generic 192.168.1.1 to get the admin panel so I can check the settings of the router. I need to make sure it is secure or else I will not be able to connect up with my works computer using VPN. So I tapped in the IP address above and typed “admin” for username and password and it displayed a screen showing all the router details including username, network ID and passwords. Should it show this or is it only showing this because I am connected with a device that already knows the password ? Confused. Any ideas ?

What you are seeing is the admin screen.
To secure the wireless router / modem turn on WEP, Wireless Equivalent Privacy.
Find this in router or wireless settings. Turn it on and set an Alpha Numeric Password.
Once set and saved the router may reboot. Then all your devices will disconnect from wireless.
You then need to set the password you created into each device you want to connect to wireless.
