    A question.
There will be 230 Rafale in the French air force (Armeè de l’Air) in the future that will be divided in many roles AA, Air-Ground, Nuclear strike, training, etc., cause with a only type of aircraft (Rafale) l’AdA wants to replace all the aircraft for frontline (Mirage F1, 2000, 2000-V, Mirage IV, etc.).
Please could someone post the exact numbers (out of 230) of this different versions?

    Many thanks
    😉

That seems to be to make sure that the AMI needs new strike aircraft, to justify the F-35A purchase. Typhoons with full ground-attack capability might otherwise be used by politicians as an excuse not to fund anything else. “What do you need F-35 for? Eurofighter can do ground-attack.”

    Exactly Swerve. Bingo.
Probably AMI will drop the final number of EFA from 121 to 105 and only Air-Air, without ground capability, saving money for the 109 F35A (and may be also F35B).
That’s under the pressure of Finmeccanica that wants its FACO for F35A/B in Italy.

So AMI will have a great pure AAW (EF) and an excellent striker of 5th generation (F35A) that will be full operable with the others NATO members.
May be that 20 out of 109 JSF for AMI will be F35B to create a JSF joint force with MMI (as the Harrier joint RN/RAF in UK) and to put the ‘wheel’ of its aircraft on the future aircraft carrier (probably a 2nd Cavour) that will replace the actual AV8B+ carrier GG.
So AMI with F35B over the aircraft carrier of MMI will gain the opportunity to deploy its aircrafts around the world thanks to MMI. :p

In the next future the number of EF for AMI will be reduced and the only development or certifications in AMI will be for AA capability.

Ok, let’s make it short :
    ================
    Typhoon is a THE fighter/bomber.
    Joust will prove 100% right.
Korean and Sing have rated Typhoon above Rafale.

Typhoon’s MMI are a fair generation ahead of Rafale.
Typhoon is more agile than Rafale due to its higher instability and long moment harm canards.
Typhoon is also much more agile in supersonic.
Typhoon’s radar is also much better.
Typhoon’s through life costs are lower.
Typhoon’s carefree handling caracteristics are much better, with any loadout…
    ====================

    Tu veut imiter moi?
Seb24 peut te bannir pour ça 😀 😀

Compare the 2 european aircrafts is natural, but it’s worth noting that the Rafale was developed as multirole and naval
operability while the EF is a pure AAW and has the support of development (aka €€€) of 4 countries and air forces.

“The point is that there is no point for France to buy Typhoon”

unless they want a better performing aircraft with better MMI for the AD role….

“Defence Analysis, June 2007, (PAGE 17 VOL 10 NO 6)

AS THE NEW GENERATION OF COMBAT AIRCRAFT see
more service, so more pilots from different countries get to fly them. And such is the case with both the Dassault Rafale and the Eurofighter Typhoon. Of note is that RAF pilots, including some pretty senior ranks, have now flown Rafale. And without having to get picky, they don’t seem that impressed.

“Frightfully underpowered”, one such pilot told Defence Analysis. “We were struggling at 20,000 feet basically unladen. I wouldn’t want to be in Rafale at 15,000 feet and +30 degrees with a combat load!” The pilot went on to describe the cockpit and its layout as, “distinctly French”, which was not necessarily a major compliment, although some of the individual instruments he thought had been very well thought out. But overall Man-Machine Interface was, “not a patch on what we have in Typhoon.”

    :p :diablo: 😮

    Sound strange to me,
in the french forum I read many times that Rafale had won many competition (simulated and others) face to EFA.
Strange to me how different people show different idea.

1st Eurofighter with PIRATE IRST (Infra Red Search & Tracking) Radar Delivered to Italian Air Force

    Aug. 2nd, 2007

1st Eurofighter with PIRATE IRST Radar Delivered to Italian Air Force The first Eurofighter Typhoon with on board the radar PIRATE- IRST designed and produced by Galileo Avionica, a Finmeccanica Company, was delivered to the Italian Aeronautica Militare.

The aircraft is part of the Tanche 1 batch 5 of the international programme Eurofighter and is operational at the Grosseto base, in Tuscany.

The PIRATE performs the same tasks of a radar, working in a passive mode, without electromagnetic radiations, detecting instead the heat of the different targets. A very important feature that increases the overall performances of a combat aircraft, offering the tactical superiority of a complete operability in Stealth (technologies allowing the aircraft to be undetectable).

Leveraging state-of-the-art technologies, the PIRATE (Passive Infra-Red Airborne Tracking Equipment) combines the functionalities of a IRST and the ones of a FLIR (Foward Looking Infra-Red). The PIRATE is compact enough to install the electronics inside the aircraft, while the searching head of the sensor emerges on the left nose in front of the windshield.

Galileo Avionica is prime contractor of the EuroFirst Consortium which features Thales in the UK and Tecnobit in Spain. In 2006, the Consortium was awarded with a contract to supply 200 PIRATE systems for the Tranche 2 of the Eurofighter in the various nations involved.

The value for Galileo Avionica of the programme, which includes Tranche 2 and Tranche 1, is around 200 million euros.

Combining its experience and leadership in electro-optical and firing systems, with the knowledge acquired in the development of the PIRATE, Galileo Avionica has developed a commercial version of the PIRATE, named IRST-C for other fighters requiring the same technologies for passive tracking of the targets.

Galileo Avionica has also developed a Naval version of the IRST which is the SASS (Silent
Acquisition Surveillance System) installed for a session of trials on board the EURO Fregate and which will equip the unit of the Italian Navy, Cavour. SASS has also been selected for the Italian fregates in the frame of the Franco Italian programme FREMM.

RIAT 2007: Italy plans Afghan test for C-27J Spartan
    By Craig Hoyle

The Italian air force plans to deploy its Alenia Aeronautica C-27J Spartan transport to support the nation’s troops in Afghanistan from late this year or early 2008, as the design is believed better suited to the theatre’s demands than the service’s bigger Lockheed Martin C-130Js, says chief of staff Gen Vincenzo Camporini.

Speaking to journalists at the Royal International Air Tattoo on 14 July, Camporini said: “We believe the C-27J is ideal for the scenario in Afghanistan. The C-130J can be too large for the tasks it is required to undertake: carrying personnel and some equipment.” The Italian air force currently flies C-130Js into Afghanistan from elsewhere in the region, and also has one aircraft allocated to support the needs of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force in the country.

    Spartan

Camporini says the decision to deploy the C-27J will be taken once the air force has sufficient aircraft and trained crews to operate the type, two of which have been delivered to Italy so far. A third example will be handed over soon, and in total seven will have been accepted by year-end.

The air force sent its first C-27J to RIAT to participate in the static display, with the aircraft carrying special decals to celebrate Alenia’s success as part of an L-3 Integrated Systems-led team last month named the winner of the US Army/Air Force Joint Cargo Aircraft competition. However, losing bidder Raytheon is currently challenging the decision.

Camporini also spoke of his ambition to have the air force’s Sikorsky HH-3F Sea King combat search-and-rescue helicopters replaced by a development of the AgustaWestland EH101 to leverage platform enhancements introduced through the Lockheed-led US101 US presidential helicopter programme. He also believes Rome’s recent decision to order 14 M-346 advanced jet trainers for the air force for delivery from 2012 will bring much-needed momentum to the proposed nine-nation Eurotraining scheme. “We expect our actions to be a catalyst for the programme,” he says.

    Well done guys,
Afghan theatre will be perfect to test the C27J and open new markets for this little military aircraft face to the little civilian (military painted) C295. 😀 😀

The only problem with this story is, the German MoD is not informed about this “gift”. The spokesman of the German MoD, Peer Eickenboom denied that there is an agreement about this.

Honestly, it’s hard to believe that. An EFA is not a little mobile phone that you can move easily…..
