Thanks markb, I think you are right. It looks like it’s been relocated behind some buildings. Found a 2014 image on the web which seem to show it in that new position.

Yes, saw it today in that position.
Also flight ops by Spit Tr.9, Blunty, Yak-3, Harvards and the normal civil stuff 🙂 Not a bad local airfield.
Yes Ando, that’s Wairarapa 🙂
Can I put my name down for the position of part-time gunner at Omaka?!

Trainers were named after education themes (Harvard, Yale, Master), Bombers places (Lancaster, Maryland), Maritime aircraft explorers (Anson, Hudson).
There were themes and ‘rules’, subject to stretching and interpretation for effect. Foreign aircraft adopted by the UK followed the same rules, with the additional aspect of being linked to country of origin.
Other biggie (that had the name adopted by US forces) would be Catalina.
Also Hudson, Ventura?
All British aircraft had names, not all US ones did.
Neat!
My still-unfinished record of my visit inside MOTAT’s ex-French Lancaster (courtesy of the Bomber Command Association).

Again thanks for the photos.
I don’t think a TVAL Snipe has displayed away from Hood (Masterton)? Other than Kermit’s!
Even the quite full-on TVAL day planned for the recent Wings Over Wairarapa didn’t have more than two of the Sopwiths in the same overall segment
http://www.wings.org.nz/display_aircraft/programme/friday.htm
If a Snipe goes to Omaka (the Camel and Tripe are more likely, and there is a non-TVAL Pup based there) then a Sopwith 4-ship is possible, but as John says, the pilots would be the tricky bit. TVAL also don’t seem to fly in formation with others, even Graham Orphan (Classic Fighters Omaka organiser) when talking about the possibility of his Fokker Dr.1 joining the 7 TVAL ones says it would be with a TVAL pilot in his.
Potentially, when the 1 1/2 Strutter is airworthy, TVAL could fly 5 Sopwith types!
Some more of the Anson at Wings Over Wairarapa:
First there was a clash with the Bf109 imposter. I hope one day the Jerry wins!

No, Fly again, Anson Bomber.
Sadly my pockets are rather empty or I’d be heading to Shropshire in an attempt to acquire some bits of wood as pattern pieces.

Did someone say bomb?

Sorry, Yes, New Zealand.
I was going to give you a ‘pass’, given that it was changed to metal wings in Australia!

3D printer not that outrageous, The Vintage Aviator makes use of them for some activities (not the actual end component, obviously!).
Just noticed that you said Wanaka earlier, did they have one as well?
The Omaka one was intended to be raised to the vertical, but it was too windy.
Hmm, Omaka 2015’s theme is ‘ANZAC Pioneers’, maybe they are digging a mine, and then blowing it up! A great way to kick off the next stage of construction at Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre! 🙂
Anyway, that German project looks great.
I don’t get why the crowd is noticeably smaller on Sunday at Omaka, Sunday always has more explosions!
Here’s the Natter mock-up exploding
